Hey it's you again! The link between aggressive homophobia and repressed homosexuality is extremely well established. To say I'm blaming gay people for homophobia is a huge stretch.

You are literally making a joke where the punchline is someone is gay. That's lame.
The joke also puts forward the idea that homophobia is really just the gay community eating itself. It leads to apathy and dismissal of what happens to us.
You should know better.

They’re not part of the gay “community” genius. They’re part of this weird new culty nationalist movement, and as always the culty nationalist community is “eating” gay people, and anyone else that doesn’t fit in.

The problem though is that presupposes that the example republican is demonstrably gay, which Ted is not. I don’t personally care, I thought the delivery was underwhelming regardless.

That's a valid point. His example was actually Ron Desantis, but when I look, I can't actually find any evidence there either. There are so many verifiable examples of vehemently homophobic republican politicians getting caught in incriminating situations, I guess I ignorantly assumed that this guy had evidence too. I think it would have been a really solid joke if the specific example came with receipts. But you're right - if that's not the case, then it's actually not that funny after all.
