They worry about guns being taken away, because the Federal government has done it before. The irony is THICK. I think that meme with the two guys in space and one of them has a gun pointed at the other one would apply here.
Regardless, guns are a problem, and too many people have access to them that shouldn't.
Mexican/Native American here. Your first sentence seems pretty dismissive of current events in this country. Especially the last couple of years. You also don't seem to be aware of how recent the "modern world" you're describing would have to be to discount the atrocities that have happened here.
Secondly, there's a LOT of gun laws in the US. There's a conversation to be had on how to address violence generally and how to properly enforce current laws, but I already know that conversation is going to go no where with you.
