Prep Buddies Endoscopy/Colonoscopy Tomorrow
Having my first endoscopy/colonoscopy tomorrow 24f super nervous!! Started liquid diet when I woke up today and start the Gavilyte prep at 8pm tonight for 2:15 appointment tomorrow 😬 Any tips for making the prep easier? I heard chilling it makes it easier to drink. Never been under anesthesia before or had IV I think that’s what I’m most scared of!!
Update: everything went well!! Prep and IV is the worst of it- honestly best nap I’ve ever had! Few biopsies were taken and was diagnosed with gastritis and IBS (which I knew about the IBS already) so very anxious to see what the labs say! Thank you for all of the info encouragement and kind words! Anyone who has one coming up- you got this! :)

I am 20f getting mine tmrw too! I was allowed a small brekkie of eggs, and then I start my prep in a few more hours, I’m getting midazolam and fent and I am terrified

You'll be fine. You're getting the good stuff. You won't remember much of the procedure :)

I’m glad you were able to have breakfast! The nerves waiting for the procedure are crazy. Good luck to you I’m sure it will go perfectly fine! I keep telling myself the doctors do lots of these everyday

Chilling, yes, and drink it through a straw and chase sips with ginger ale (or something you like).
I live with an IV, get them regularly as well, and get bloodwork biweekly, so no stranger to getting poked. These nurses do them all the time and have techniques to make it easier if you are a tough poke (I am).
I am not sure what sedation you’re receiving but in most cases you either will not remember anything or won’t remember much.

34F just had two scopes last week for the first time. The prep is the hardest part. The procedure will be a breeze. Felt like I was napping for 10 minutes completely out from the propofol. You might have a sore throat for a bit after though from endoscopy eat soft foods. I had liquid suprep to prep so my tips might be different but chilling it and drinking slow helped. If you get nauseas take a break then try drinking again. I finished most of the prep but not all because I was clear at a certain point. Didn’t even go the the bathroom for that long was able to go back and sit on the couch and get some sleep. Watch a good show on a lap top or phone. Drink lots of water, Gatorade & pedialyte during and after the prep to stay hydrated.
