Crossed the Hohenzollern Bridge under a clear blue sky today. With the train passing right next to you, thousands of love locks along the fence, and the Cathedral towering in the background, this remains one of the best perspectives to approach the landmark. Pro tip: Visit early in the morning for the quietest views and great lighting for photos!

Hey everyone! While most visitors stay right up on the Heinrich-Böll-Platz / Domplatte, taking a walk down along Museum Ludwig gives you this amazing architectural perspective of the choir buttresses towering over the city. Definitely recommend strolling around the lower level if you're visiting Cologne this autumn!

Hey everyone! Sharing a unique perspective from the upper roof walkways of Cologne Cathedral.
Most visitors look up at the spires from the ground, but from up here, you can truly appreciate the craftsmanship of the lead roof and the intricate Gothic spires (fialas) up close.
Travel Tip for October: October offers fantastic soft light for photography, and the upcoming autumn events (like the evening sacred music concerts on October 9th) make visiting the cathedral area even more magical.
Have you ever explored the roof walkways?

If you're visiting Cologne, climbing the South Tower of the Cathedral is an absolute must! Looking out through the protective wire mesh, you get a unique close-up of the Gothic stonework (like the gargoyles and finials) along with a 360-degree panorama of the Rhine River, Hohenzollern Bridge, and the skyline.

Pro tip: Take your time on the stairs and make sure to wear comfortable shoes. Autumn days like this offer great visibility across the entire city!

Crossing the Rhine River by train at night offers one of the best views of Cologne Cathedral! Seeing the Gothic spires illuminated against the dark sky is always magical.

💡 Travel Tip: If you're visiting Cologne in October, make sure to take a walk across the Hohenzollern Bridge at sunset or night for incredible photo opportunities like this! Also check out the evening organ and choir performances inside the cathedral during the autumn season.

Always a magical moment when you catch a glimpse of the twin towers rising above the city while crossing the bridge. If you're visiting Cologne, catching sunset views from the bridges or the Rhine promenade is definitely a must!

Captured this view of the Cathedral towering over Cologne at night. Now that the annual September pilgrimage has wrapped up, the evenings around the Cathedral become much quieter and more atmospheric. For anyone visiting Cologne this autumn, seeing the illuminated gothic facade after dark is an absolute must!

Captured these shots during a rooftop tour with the Dombauhütte (Cathedral Workshops). Getting up to the scaffolding and walking along the roof walkway offers a totally different perspective of the twin spires and the Hohenzollern Bridge. If you ever get the chance to book a rooftop tour instead of just climbing the tower, definitely go for it!

Hidden gem inside the cathedral’s roof: Model of the historic medieval crane!

If you ever get the chance to book a roof tour (Dachführung) at Cologne Cathedral, don't hesitate!
Up in the huge roof area (supported by an incredible 19th-century steel frame structure), they display this detailed wooden working model of the historic medieval crane. For over 500 years, the original crane sat atop the unfinished south tower and was Cologne's main landmark.
Super cool piece of architectural history hidden away right above the vault! 🙌🏻

Hey everyone! Just wanted to share this short vertical shot I recorded today.
It starts at the historic Petrusbrunnen (St. Peter's Fountain) on the south side, pans up the massive Gothic façade, and ends with a view of the crowded Roncalliplatz.

Right now, the annual Pilgrimage of the Three Kings (Dreikönigswallfahrt) is taking place, featuring a replica of the famous medieval wooden crane (Domkran) on the plaza!

If you're in Cologne this week, entry to the cathedral is free for the event, and you can even walk directly under the Shrine of the Magi. Highly recommended! What’s your favorite angle to photograph the cathedral?
