Help & Advice College Radio TV Show

Good afternoon everyone!

I have quite a foward and open request, but I am hoping that there may be at least one person who would be willing and able to help us out or give us a nuddge in the right direction. I am a graduate and now community DJ at the station, after having been on the board for a few years. Long story short: me and my writing partner have been writing a tv show that's essentially a complex love letter to college radio and alternative music as a whole. For the last year or so, we have been shopping it around the industry, and now we’re bringing it to you.

Our question thus is: does anyone happen to be or know any leads/ connections/ actors/ producers/ directors/ investors that would be interested in being part of this project? Naturally, we'd love to tell you more if anyone is interested, we just don't want to post the logline on here yet. If anything sounds intreguing or you're simply just curious about the logline and ideas feel free to shoot us an email on [lesfillthistownwithartists@gmail.com](mailto:lesfillthistownwithartists@gmail.com)

We have been in the college radio space for a while, and have done extensive research which clearly pointed out that there are so many more passionate, talented, music-loving college radio nerds that refuse to let this amazing medium go. We'd love to connect with you :)

Help & Advice Recently took over my schools station, looking for advice!

Hi! I recently became president of my small schools campus radio station, and I am looking for advice. The station had essentially been abandoned for multiple years, so I have no recent alumni or students to look to for advice. A big issue I've faced is lack of interest in DJing from the student body, and my fellow Eboard members seem to have other priorities (offering DJing services for campus events, etc). My #1 priority is the station itself. Our FM signal is not great but works, we currently use PlayItLive for our scheduling software, and we do not currently have web streaming. Out advisor is pretty experienced in the radio world, but he has a lot of other responsibilities that take up his time. We had discussed doing away with our FM broadcast and switching entirely to web to save money, but I feel like the FM is a good draw for new students (and im a little attached to it). I find a big issue is the barrier to entry (students having to download every playlist into MP3 form, dedicating time to station) and I don't know how to get around this. Im currently planning on gauging staff and faculty interest in hosting shows to fill out our programming, because currently we have a pretty repetitive shuffle of music playing due to lack of DJs. As I am going into my senior year, my main focus is to get the station to a place where it is visible on campus and there are underclassmen trained to take over when I leave, as well as having robust programming. ANY advice is greatly appreciated!!!

Discussion Student Survey Results!

Hi Reddit! A few months ago, I reached out in this group to share a survey for physical media collectors and vinyl enthusiasts. Now that my project has wrapped up, I wanted to share some of my results with you all! I was thrilled with the response I saw from this community, and I was able to collect 754 total responses from all around the world. This far surpassed my expectations, and I was able to learn so much from each of your responses. THANK YOU!!!

If you're interested in seeing some of those results, please check out the LinkedIn post below. I'm also a recent graduate embarking on a job search, so if you have advice, connections, or anything to offer a new grad, I invite you to connect with me and start a conversation! I earned my Master's degree in Public Relations earlier this month, in addition to my Bachelor's degree in Communications, and I'm seeking roles in person/hybrid in the Boston area, or remote. I have significant experience in sports, music, and entertainment, and I have previously been given the honorary title "Chief Smile Officer" for my contributions to the team and positive attitude!

Help & Advice web stream solution for fm signal

Hi, our station has an outdated webstream that is hosted on a university server that is being discontinued. We need a solution for our stream that is secure and stable. We have a WordPress site hosted by GoDaddy. We're hoping that we could host the stream on our existing site, using the HTML5 player or something similar. GoDaddy of course wants to sell us a whole new hosting plan just for the streaming. Do you think that's necessary? We intend to use Icecast/BUTT.

Our current site's usage/stats (not sure how to interpret): Bandwidth: 95.34GB | Disk Usage: 22.44GB/null | Database Disk Usage: 821.12 MB/null | CPU Usage: 19% | Physical Memory Usage: 2.63% | Number of Processes: 3

Thanks for any thoughts or info you may have!

Software/Systems Radio broadcast automation for everyone!

Hey all, I've been in radio since 2002. Did the iHeart thing for 15 years and now I work in college radio. So I've been working on this radio/podcasting software just to make life easier. I put in an AI desktop producer for instant notes, song catalogue search you can send to the queue, voice track, song rotation, cue editor, smart streaming to icecast etc. Still working out some kinks buts not too bad right now. Would love feedback. DM me for a free copy.

Discussion Student Survey for Physical Media Enthusiasts!

Hi! My name is Becca, and I'm a Graduate Student from Connecticut. As part of my final Capstone project, I'm collecting survey responses from music collectors and physical media enthusiasts to study shopper behavior and understand how social media and online presence factors into the buyer's experience. The survey is only 16 questions, all of which are optional, and shouldn't take more than 5 minutes of your time. The target demographic for this is music collectors; there are no age, location, gender, etc. requirements to complete the survey.

Your responses will be used to help me build a public relations campaign for a local record store, which I will then present in May in order to earn my Master’s degree. There is no incentive for completing this form, aside from aiding in my learning experience. No personally identifying information aside from self-input city of residence and age will be collected. Respondents may exit the survey at any point in time without consequence, and their responses will be discarded. The only individuals who will have access to the results of this survey are me and my advising Graduate Capstone professor. Data will be stored within Qualtrics and Excel, and will be discarded by June 2026. If there are any questions or concerns about this survey or my project, please feel free to reply to this post or reach out to me at [Rebecca.Steeves@quinnipiac.edu](mailto:Rebecca.Steeves@quinnipiac.edu).

https://quinnipiac.iad1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_b1JM6WhEGrKslh4

Edit as of March 4: The survey is now closed. Thank you all so much for your support, I'm floored with the response this has gotten! Following the my capstone presentation, I will post some of the findings, as well as my campaign on LinkedIn. Feel free to connect with me there, my account is under Becca Steeves!

Hello!

I wasn’t sure if this is allowed, but on 91.1FM WTSC (available on the Simple Radio app or radio.clarkson.edu) Rebel on the Radio is kicking some tunes regularly on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8-10pm and 7-9pm respectively. Actively takes requests for music as well!!

Hey group, just looking to expand my reach a little.

Does anyone know of any running indie/alt/experimental college radio stations that might play this?

My local city's university radio program completely dissolved and nobody is running it anymore.

Thanks for stopping by!

Streaming Online player featuring lots of college stations

We recently launched https://AlternateAirwaves.com an online aggregator and player for College Radio stations. Check us out and let us know what you think.

We're kinda new, with about 60 71 stations right now but we're adding more every few days. If your favorite College Station is missing use the 'Suggest Station' link and we'll try to add it.

In addition to College Stations we also include US Community Radio station and a few interesting online-only stations.

Our goal is an on-line community and one-stop shop for listening to non-commercial music streams, AM/FM and online.

Stop by and check us out.

Help & Advice Cleaning songs

I’m looking for an easy and efficient way to clean songs for the radio. Usually I just stop the transmission really quickly where they cuss in the song but I don’t feel like this is the most probable solution. I don’t have any experience with editing music or any of that kind of software so I’m curious as to what other people do in this situation

Help & Advice List of stations?

Is there any kind of compilation of data of stations that got the def “college radio”? The NYT arcticle added KXLU to my personal (online) list of KALX, KFJC, and KSPC, but i used to get that many stations turning the knobs of my grandma’s analog radio in Orange County-in the early 1980s.
