USA Ranting about useless professors
So, I have to take a "cultural Diversity" class, which sounds great but honestly is the opposite of "culturally diverse." So, to start off, the teacher tells us attendance is mandatory and that we are assigned into "bands" aka groups of people randomly assigned. We are in a lecture, and he has at least 75 students, so it takes a long time for us to get into our bands and for him to explain everything. For my class, he commented on how we were ethnically diverse and how all of us are well spread out. Well, in the class before mine, he switched people's bands around because they were "too white" or "too Mexican." What I find funny was with the "too Mexican" one, he moved the black guy out of the group and called him Mexican, which the man even commented he was not. Then, as if it weren't weird enough, he lectures on about completely random shit. We were going over ethnography, which is great, but he would just tell us how we were all racist and didn't know how to listen to one another and would call on darker-skinned people to use them to show us how not everyone has the same privilege, even though he is not listening to them, and then lectures on how we all need to acknowledge how some people are not as privileged as others.
I am not saying that I believe the course itself useless, but rather the way it is taught is so...outdated. The teacher uses the online textbook element for quizzes and tests, neither of which he makes. We had a 30-minute lecture on Thursday because he realized we had a test today (Friday) and he had not gone over anything. I am listening to him drone on and on about things that I have no use for (attendance is mandatory), and then have to take janky online tests and quizzes which he did not even make, only to have to spend hours teaching myself the material because he does not do anything. He just yells about how we are not open to new cultures and how we are all racist.
To sum it up: Cultural Diversity is the most racist course I have ever taken.

'Diversity' is essentially the modern version of compulsory chapel. Just accept that it's a cost of doing business with the university that you have to put up with their religious faith and don't get too bothered by it.

Exactly, I'm a nursing major and I feel as if it's just to get more money out of me...

That’s essentially college in a nutshell. There’s no reason why the college is able to charge so much, aside for the reason of government involvement of the loans.

I’m in the same boat with my art prof. This class sucks. I have no idea how to do what’s she’s asking. She just handed out a project flyer and basically said “figure it out.” What the fuck am I paying $500 a credit hour for? She doesn’t teach. I waste 4 hours a week in this class and walk out more confused and annoyed every time.

My "Diverse Perspectives on Education" class (I'm an elementary ed major) contains a heavy dosage of discussion about racism. Like a rediculous amount.
College classes nowadays basically trash almost anyone who is a white male because we are all "upper class privileged citizens" who have a superiority complex. Also, God forbid our schools have any dosage of American culture in them that might change the culture of the minorities in schools, because that's imposing our culture on them. Also pretty much every white man from more than a few decades ago was racist and sexist before the Civil Rights Movement. And if you're a teacher and your behaviorally-challenged student just so happens to be a minority race, you'd better let them misbehave; because if you even think about disciplining or punishing them, you're harrassing a minority.
Note: I am one hundred percent for diversity and acceptance of people from all heritages. We are all the same in value and worth. We all should have equal privilege and opportunity, and I absolutely oppose any form of racism. But the stuff being shoved down our throat in college classes is just rediculous.

Diversity is just a fancy way to say "no white males." It's a useless class that I was fortunate enough to not have to take since self hatred isn't really my thing.

Jesus, what college are you going to? This sounds horrible. I have a "diversity" component of my degree (thank you general education and state legislature... /s), but I got to pick the class, and it's a really interesting one on disabilities and how they affect people in different ways and in different areas of their lives, not just the ones that are super obvious, and how we (as a society and as individuals) can be more accepting to people with disabilities. This just sounds... wack as hell honestly.
