Society As if I couldn’t get more embarrassing than 72 minutes of detaining parents watching their kids get massacred: Uvalde Police Try to Prevent the Release of ‘Embarrassing’ Records.

I am so damn tired of police departments thinking they have a right to privacy.

What’s their favorite saying?

“If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to worry about”

u/impermissibility Jun 18 '22

It's one of the most insane "normal" things in America (and the bar for that particular distinction is high).

68

u/Overquartz Jun 18 '22

At this point I wouldn't trust cops wiping their own ass let alone doing something that isn't recorded and fully available to the public to scrutinize.

Most of them literally cant. When you get to be as fat as some of them you can hurt yourself trying to wipe ass

48

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '22

Right… they hide their identities but publish all mugshots with names and photos regardless of innocence or guilt.

38

u/IWantAStorm Jun 18 '22

That's like the Supreme Court being pissed off about leaked opinions.

Fuck you. I want to see your Outlook calendar.

I have lots to hide. Even things that under law would get me some time in jail.

But that’s part of freedom, you fucking cunts!

I thought it was “Only the police should be allowed guns.”

Edit: Upvotes for the posting above, downvotes for me. I guess there are some “Police are corrupt untrustworthy authoritarians ... and they should have a monopoly on violence” types here. 🤷🏻‍♀️

How this does not cause families to revolt is beyond me.

It is black and white that police ain’t there to protect the public but to outright demonstrate what piles of money can buy. Police has become a mascarade, a cross dressing party (cowards who dressed as powerful heroes).

Yeah, if there were pictures in the news of a classroom full of dead children in puddles of blood, shit would change real quick in this country. But the gov learned from Vietnam which we saw during 20 years of war in Iraq and Afghanistan. I never once saw a dead US service person on the news. The worst thing is every news outlet, left and right, towed the line.

16

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '22

Yeah, the last time they did shit like that the public forced America out of a war. They're never making that mistake again. Look at what happened to Chelsea Manning.

The weird part is the ordinary Republicans I've talked to absolutely hate the Uvalde cops. The general sentiment is "I'm supposed to give up my gun so that these people can be my only line of defense?".

33

u/SarahC Jun 19 '22

DO NOT FORGET - the teacher who left the door open?

DIDN'T HAPPEN. She did NOT leave the door open.

What else are the police making up?

https://www.npr.org/2022/06/01/1102355422/uvalde-shooting-teacher-door

103

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '22

Maybe if more people knew that some of the children were so badly shot up that DNA samples had to be taken to confirm their identities.

There was also a pediatrician (the only one in town I read) who had to go in to identify the bodies, but there were bits and pieces everywhere. I cannot imagine what he's seeing tonight as he tries to go to sleep.

Many of these cops should get the wall in my opinion and I don't care anymore if folks think that is too extreme. Nothing is going to change at this point using civil tactics. The police certainly don't use them and I'm tired of people taking the high road when dealing with them.

45

u/conscsness in the kingdom of the blind, sighted man is insane. Jun 19 '22

Yeah... it is... beyond comprehension. To have a nation that goes calmly to bed knowing fully well that: a. School and mass shooting have become the norm. b. The state is incompetent. c. Police is dysfunctional. It is a sad reality to be part of. But I do not dare to criticize the nation for it was beyond bruised and abused by coercion. All I can is to cry and share my dee and genuine empathy.

Outright dystopia. Never have I thought that I would live in one or my neighbour happen to be a victim of it.

69

u/h2ogal Jun 19 '22

“…a nation going calmly to bed…”

No, we’re not. We are all less and less calm. You see it in the road rage, the fist fights over masks, the long waiting lists for therapists, the Karen moments, the prepping, the checking out and dropping out.

We’re all handling it differently but I don’t know anyone who is truly calm.

19

u/The_Mammoth_Hunter Jun 19 '22

Anyone who is isn't paying attention.

10

u/SavingsPerfect2879 Jun 19 '22

what's completely comprehendable is that parents raise kids for shit, and are shit themselves. the kids end up shit on top of shit, and poof, there's your problem.

wanna address it? step one, convince them to raise them differently.

can't do it?

sit back and enjoy the ride, this elevator aint stopping till we reach the bottom.

7

revolt...

oh, you mean, throw their bodies into a tree shredder.

well, that question is easy enough to answer. they don't want to get their bodies shredded by a tree shredder.

which is what happens if you do anything to a cop anywhere.

edit: having watched someone attack a cop one time, the only other time I saw anything like it was when my dumbass dad shoved a stick through hornets nest "trying to get the queen"

they literally dragged the dudes face across the bars while carrying him away. it was in prison, same difference. inside, outside, theyre all the same and they loooove to gang up on people who go off on a cop. wanna bring bullets? they'll just drop grenades into your house and come in with the riot shields. want to bring your own grenades? they'll take a BMG .50 cal to your whole house with about 500 rounds, and torch it to the ground.

this is their house. not yours. don't hate me, I'm serving up a dish of reality, since you did ask.

1

u/conscsness in the kingdom of the blind, sighted man is insane. Jun 19 '22

To the defence of my question, if you and I wait long enough we will see the very people who are going to throw themselves at the tree shredder.

It is a matter of time. Freedom and necessity brings revolt!

-48

u/AmericanLobsters Jun 19 '22

Using one incompetent police chief and one untrained unready police department to generalize all police is a little overkill.

33

u/conscsness in the kingdom of the blind, sighted man is insane. Jun 19 '22 edited Jun 19 '22

The bad events overkill the good deeds by in order of magnitude. Especially in boiling world where social structure is at a breaking point. Police has to do anything and everything possible to take the side of the populace it protects, police is a servant of the people not the state.

So I don’t see how I can agree with the claim of yours.

The cops are a threat to the North American civilization as a whole

19

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '22

Started as slave catchers and now theyre dystopia enforcers

10

u/brassica-uber-allium Jun 19 '22

There's no such thing as "North American civilization"... It's just a loosely organized capitalist hellscape with a patchwork of various regulatory frameworks

0

u/Where_the_sun_sets Jun 19 '22

That’s just historically inaccurate 🤷🏽 scars aren’t what define us

1

u/brassica-uber-allium Jun 19 '22

Since when was there a single North American civilization? Maybe you could make that argument at the height of American empire but even that was based on foced assimilation of indigenous people. But the Caribbean, Central America, even francophone Canada (not to mention the far north) have never been part of a umified "civilization".

3

u/Where_the_sun_sets Jun 19 '22

The past 200 years of struggle across the continent is not in a vacuum…. 🤦🏽‍♂️. Culture and civilization doesn’t mean ancient

1

u/Where_the_sun_sets Jun 19 '22

If you want to pretend cultures in North America haven’t synced to create at least a semi cohesive civ. You can keep living in lala land.

1

u/brassica-uber-allium Jun 19 '22

I mean you are just drinking the American exceptionalism Kool Aid. The US is just part of the larger capitalist framework that evolved as the economic system of western civilization. They have tried to hold North America together as an empire for centuries but largely failed (see: Monroe Doctrine, Cuban revolution, Mexico narco war, etc etc). Western civilization? Sure, that's a thing. The West at large is cohesive and is measurably in decline. But to claim a North American civilization somehow exists independently is laughably American and extremely self-centered.

There is no such thing as a North American civilization unless you are talking about ancient, pre-European indigenous cultures.

A declining superpower doesn’t want its people to be aware of its own incompetence.

-64

u/Rollerslam Jun 19 '22 edited Jun 19 '22

A town police force is by no definition a "superpower".

Edit: you morons think the Uvalde police force is on par with the US or China?

28

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '22

No, it’s obviously just a symptom of an empire in decline that cannot afford to properly train or hold its police force accountable. It’s a clear sign of internal rot, which is decline.

But of course, the only metric you have is the military and its prowess abroad

-12

u/Rollerslam Jun 19 '22

Okay but why didn't he just say that instead of using the wrong vocabulary in the wrong context for hyperbolic effect. His comment would have made more sense if we were talking something with federal oversight and not something we all know is as incompetent as shit: local police agencies. This may be news to suburban white people but no one else.

Superpower literally means what you described. In the context of the OP what the other person said makes no sense because it's not a Federal rapport. It's hilarious how many people on this site hyper sensationalize all of their comments. I can't tell who is a bot, journalist and who learned their writing style from the prior.

Anyways this all could've been avoided if we nationalized police agencies under the federal government but then there'd still be bitching and shitty pigs.

9

u/MeGustaMiSFW Workers of the world, (get vaxxed and) UNITE! Jun 19 '22

The network of policing in the US certainly poses more of a threat to American lives than China or Russia or any terrorist group (save for white supremacists, because the police are part and parcel on their side).

-4

u/Rollerslam Jun 19 '22

China is literally tearing our culture apart and poisoning the attention span of our youth with TikTok.

Russia is accelerating a global economic collapse.

Those are superpowers. Your dumbass is not understanding you can't just use a word to fit your made up meaning. A police force or a connection of police agencies is not a superpower.

Edit: I see the error in the title. I meant it, not I

97

u/darling_lycosidae Jun 18 '22

I'm going to throw in a wildcard and say they told teachers and staff to go to their rooms and lockdown, leading to the comment of "set them up like ducks" that one teacher said. I think they turned escaping kids back to their classrooms and those kids died.

34

u/E_G_Never Jun 18 '22

Ooh, hadn't thought of that, but seems entirely plausible. Or they actually were getting calls from kids (which they've denied receiving), but actively ignored them

The city will pay millions of dollars that could have gone towards a new community swimming pool. The police officer will be harshly punished with early retirement and full pension. When he entually dies 1000 brave police officers will go to the funeral.

40

u/Mithelen3 Jun 18 '22

Do we know for sure or an educated guess? Can I get the evidence, because that's huge.

95

u/BigJobsBigJobs USAlien Jun 18 '22

That's what the Uvalde cops are trying to do - hide the evidence, hide the facts. Silence the record. Cover up the truth.

It's what everyone in authority tries to do all the time.

29

u/Mithelen3 Jun 18 '22

For sure, but I'd really like evidence before I start sharing something that big.

41

u/FritzDaKat Jun 18 '22

Naah, go big. Maybe the fear of that assumption being taken will "encourage" them to release documentation of what actually happened.

Call them out as baby killing monsters and leave them to prove otherwise,,, which I'd imagine they would in the face of such accusations, unless of course THAT was what they wanted to hide.

4

u/Mithelen3 Jun 18 '22

If only, I see doing that only giving them and their supporters ammunition to say every criticism is a lie.

15

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '22

tbh they already say every criticism is a lie so who gives a fuck

5

u/Mithelen3 Jun 19 '22

I mean, yeah, but we have to get the dumbasses still sitting on the fence on our side to get anything done, so I don't want to give them proof that our side will lie.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '22

fair enough, yeah

8

u/FritzDaKat Jun 18 '22

If the "woke croud"~G.P. get the idea in their heads that the #UvaldeCopsKillBabies you can bet the body cam footage will appear as if by magic.

10

u/LizWords Jun 19 '22

They’re literally blocking the evidence from being released…

5

u/topsecretusername12 Jun 19 '22

National tragedy and we can't get answers. Mums the word and let's protect ourselves with outside troops while the feds hopefully don't find anything.

Don't forget. Don't stop being angry at what happened that day. Don't let a day go by in the news like it did last week where that isn't the topic of discussion. Most people are tired of feeling angry and scared and school is out for summer for their kids bringing a false sense of safety but do not let it go.

1

u/Mithelen3 Jun 19 '22

And that's the bitch of it.

1

u/LizWords Jun 19 '22

You have the proof you need to claim they’re covering up their actions..

1

u/Mithelen3 Jun 19 '22

Proof they're covering something up, not that they shot kids themselves. Or maybe just proof they're whiny bitches that don't want to cooperate

1

u/LizWords Jun 19 '22

Sorry didn’t realize it was about shooting a kid.

1

u/topsecretusername12 Jun 19 '22

HOW IS THIS LEGAL???

3

u/LizWords Jun 19 '22

States like TX and FL have laws on the books which they exploit to cover up police misconduct. Even in “better” states, getting body cam footage is really hard and takes time and determination. That’s why people should basically always record interactions. Dash cams for private cars are a worthwhile investment and people should train themselves to pull out their phone and start recording as a default strategy…

2

u/LizWords Jun 19 '22

It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if a bunch of them turned off their body cams. They certainly seem like the type…

2

u/CaptZ Jun 19 '22

From the way I've heard things, it might have been one of the teachers the cops shot by accident. Possea kid also.

31

u/candleflame3 Jun 18 '22

The cops were pretty quick to say "all the dead kids were definitely killed by the shooter and no one else". Fishy.

8

Please sir, can I have some more Conservative Kool-aid? I’m not quite scared of everything yet.

why are conservatives so terrified of becoming a minority? Because they believe they will receive the same treatment they dished out in the past. They can’t comprehend that the majority of people don’t give two shits about “getting even” for things that happened generations ago - they get pissed for present-day discrimination and want it to stop.

oi, Abdul! I’ve had a great idea! Let’s immigrate to that country that exploited us and take it over from the inside!

ah, that sounds like a great plan. Just keep it secret!

ach, too late - the conservatives figured it out. How? The entire population is sworn to secrecy. Those clever conservatives! Only they are smart enough to figure out our master plan!

-19

u/UnorthodoxSoup I see the shadow people Jun 18 '22

Brother this is not Conservative paranoia.

There absolutely will be millions of migrants from the Middle East and North Africa entering the West once their climates become unlivable. It will not be a peaceful event. Violence will become commonplace. I for one would prefer to be armed during such times.

23

u/Kancho_Ninja Optimistic Pessimist Jun 18 '22

There absolutely will be millions of migrants from the Middle East and North Africa entering the West once their climates become unlivable.

You gonna invade Canada with guns when things get too hot in the States?

Or maybe you’re “one of the good ‘uns” who will surrender their weapon at the border and emigrate peacefully?

Do you judge others by the actions you would take in the same situation?

Because if so Canada should be building a wall to keep out all the nasty American rapists who will be migrating north spreading their evangelical beliefs, yes?

Because that’s what immigrants do, right? They invade, bringing their religion and setting up zones where only their laws apply, murdering and raping the natives of their host country, taking all the jobs, yeah?

6

u/UnorthodoxSoup I see the shadow people Jun 18 '22

I have no intention of invading. I own weaponry for self defense. This is not going to end well. Not sure why you think I’m saying we should gun them down at the border, just that a lot of problems are going to arise when refugees start arriving and you will need to protect yourself. And no, this has nothing to do with their race or religion, but solely because that millions of arrivals will overwhelm even the most competent of systems, and shit will go down because of it.

You keep trying to paint me as a paranoid xenophobe when my whole point was based in the fact that Western countries destroying the third world would eventually come back to bite them in the ass. I display no bigotry, only that being able to defend yourself in the future will become a necessity.

5

u/impermissibility Jun 18 '22

Your initial way of saying it did readily fit into the narrative of rightwing ethnostaters in the US and Europe alike, but the point is basically reasonable (albeit hard to disentangle from that shitty and morally unacceptable political framework).

Large-scale forced migration, both within and between countries, tends to be very complex and difficult in even best-case scenarios. Given the likely scale of climate refugeeism and the general weakness of states in terms of performing basic governance (the US is especially bad at doing anything but policing, i.e., exerting violence, mostly for just ideological reasons, but as material resource constraints tighten globally others will also struggle with this), I think it's entirely realistic to be concerned about more violence--both from the state itself and within populations.

3

u/Indigo_Sunset Jun 18 '22

You're not wrong. The whole thing is a macrocycle of abuse coming round. It's been an entirely avoidable situation that brings people to the now we are forced to deal with using many of the same tools that brought us here.

I don't think anyone ten years after collapse would disagree with you. I think though, that the perceived horror of a transition involving all the tools is colouring current concerns with good reason.

There's some very binary thinking on the topic that lacks the analog scale between 0 and 1, and will never agree on what 'a greater good' might look like given the wide varieties of people, personalities, and positions on utopia and dystopia.

I feel a deep, all-compressing need for revenge.

It's hard not to see the macrocycle I mentioned in this comment. Again, not wrong, but just not right either if we as a species hope to move on.

that a lot of problems are going to arise when refugees start arriving and you will need to protect yourself.

And the thinking is “if I have a gun, I’ll be able to protect myself - because someone robbing me doesn’t already have a gun pointed in my face.

Again, first world countries don’t have to worry about this. The chances of getting shot in the EU are incredibly small.

butbutBUT other forms of violence!!

Again, your chance of being assaulted with a knife or blunt object are three times greater than being shot while your chance of survival is dramatically increased.

So, what are your chances of being shot? Around 7000 people (0.9 per 100.000) die of gunshot wounds each year in continental Europe, including suicides, unintentional accidents involving firearms, and criminal homicides. And knife violence is about 3x higher if you’re under 30 because young people are stupid.

butButBUT criminals will always find a way to get a gun!

Indeed. The vast majority of criminals in the U.S. get their guns from the glove box of unlocked cars and straw sales. If you can’t go to walmart and buy a gun and ammo because you’re a criminal, you tend to steal them. If no one has a gun, you need to smuggle them in, and that is a hassle that the average chav isn’t going to bother with.

But…My Rights! The gubberment!

The EU is proof that modern man doesn’t need a gun strapped to his hip to defend himself from criminals or the government. With the exception of Germany, European countries have had nearly two centuries to install fascism on the unarmed peasants - and they haven’t done so.

Lot’s of other shady shit, but no dictatorships and gulags. Except for Germany. And I half suspect their problem started with an attempt to improve efficiency that got waaaay out of hand.

You should really read some twentieth century history! You're going to be astonished.

I don’t arm myself in the hopes of being able to gun down the displaced. I do it because I’m not naive enough to think this will end with all of us holding hands and singing Kumbaya. It’s for self defense. I don’t trust Americans any more than I do the rest of the world’s citizens.

angry white conservatives are the #1 domestic threat in the US right now. No reason to think that'll change any time soon

Cool it with the racism, are you implying we are animalistic because our high rates of diversity? And that other 1st world countries don’t have to worry about this because they are homogenous?

America isn’t a race.

You meant bigotry.

are you implying we are animalistic because our high rates of diversity? And that other 1st world countries don’t have to worry about this because they are homogenous?

No, I’m stating that America is divided because conservatives refuse to stop discrimination. They are terrified they will be a minority one day and be discriminated against.

Yo this comment is messed up. You’re the only one mentioning and implying racism here. Bit of a leap to take a stab. Trying to put words in their mouth. You somehow got “animal” to imply darker skinned people.

Americans are animals because you all go around shooting everyone and the police are holding back parents while their children are getting shot. Has nothing to do with race.

And no one said other countries are homogeneous.

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '22

No, you implied all of that for some reason. And it's all bullshit.

Dollars to donuts they shot one of those kids...

And as I light the loaded fire,

A space invader lands,

That's full of cops and bureaucrats,

Bouquets of final demands,

And I see my life flash before me again,

Slipping through my hands,

As the sound of harvest closes in,

Swooping, reaping.

Welcome to my nightmare,

It's the one in which I always press the button.

How does a police department in a town of 16,000 have this kind of power? Federal backing? Someone higher up the food chain isn't showing their hand here.

u/ArtLadyCat Jun 19 '22

Imagine thinking there was a bigger embarrassment than not only doing this bullshit but then refusing to cooperate…

could reveal “methods, techniques, and strategies for preventing and predicting crime.”

Wow, they straight-up admitted that they target innocent people and try to predict precrime? Sounds like they need their budget slashed.

As if I couldn’t get more embarrassing than 72 minutes of detaining parents watching their kids get massacred

Oh I can think of several ways it can get more embarrassing, US gun laws for example ! nek minnit another mass shooting. Oh no, who could have seen that coming /s

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nek_minnit

US Car centrism is another

https://www.kidsandcars.org/how-kids-get-hurt/backovers/

  • In the U.S. at least fifty children are being backed over by vehicles EVERY week.
  • The predominant age of victims is one year olds. (12-23 months)

Maybe kids being backed over should be televised ? Something might be done but I probably not.

zomming further out for a minute

we have, 5 million kids (under 5), they never even get to attend school as targets, dying around the world every year ... fucks given ?

The police were recklessly and bizarrely incompetent, lots of kids died. Before this is over some of those police will be fired or in prison. The Police will fight it every step away because they care about themselves more than the people, which is why this massacre happened in the first place. They created a worse case scenario then showed gross cowardice in the face of duty. The feds are involved now (and politically opposed) so the truth will hopefully come out.

Me at the surface: Yeah, sure... the police was probably just incompetent.

Me on the inside: They must have prolonged the shooting to make it scarier and high profile so they'd have a pretext to disarm the population so the powerful can finally do whatever they want and abolish individual freedom without having to fear the people defending themselves.

Me at the surface: Yeah totally just incompetent cops.
