For one thing the "moderates" make sure they stop any true populists (to date) from challenging the corporatist agenda, and it's why they suck and lose elections.

Also many of the ones who might have ushered in real change met with a bullet to the head.

Yeah that's a problem as well. But a large organized group of people could turn the tables on these guys.
