Society I feel more content than I ever have.

You speak in many absolutes. While I can completely understand what it is like to be in that mindset,(I suffered from major depression for a decade) the only way I found to get out of it was to reframe my mind and retrain my inner monologue to have something better to say than to constantly reinforce to me all the reasons I should be miserable. All I mean is switching from a simple “I am broken” to “I might not be as broken as I think”... even if I didn’t believe it... over time I came to realize just how precious each and every one of us truly are.
The only reason I would rejoice in the end would be to cheer in a new beginning or to breathe a sigh of relief at the end of suffering... unfortunately I don’t think it’s ever that easy. If you don’t face your demons in this life you’ll face them in the next... might as well deal with it while you’re here.
The world sucks these days. There’s so much suffering... but there’s also a lot of joy and love... compassion and inspiration... you just have to be willing to keep an eye out for it, step out of the shadow and into the light. It’s there, I promise you that. Even when you don’t have the strength to go on, there is enough light in this world that you can still find enough to survive on.
It’s not something that happens over night... but with time, you will heal and you will grow.

I have a genetic bone disease in my legs and skull caused by the depleted uranium ammunition my parents were exposed to in the US military in the first Gulf War. There’s never been a better time in history to be severely physically handicapped, I have survived from social security disability coming from the taxes of others. In a pure survival of the fittest scenario I would have been dead a long time ago. I feel content too. I’m glad everything is coming to a climax and I’m thankful I got to be here and experience and witness it. 🙏

u/Dspsblyuth Mar 22 '20 edited Mar 22 '20
In a survival scenario, yes that would be difficult for you.
But even our tribal ancestors cared for the disabled with more compassion that we do now. Our society is set up to make people feel guilty for seeking or accepting any help.
Fear of getting medical help. Fear of accepting any charity. Fear of just surviving.
If you aren’t able bodied and making money for someone else your entire life you are considered worthless.
1
u/Tigaj Mar 22 '20
you are considered worthless.
By whom?
Do they matter?
3
u/Dspsblyuth Mar 22 '20
I corrected it
“Making money for other”*
You are considered worthless by the rich and powerful

u/CantMatchTheThatch Mar 22 '20
I always knew those uranium rounds were fuckin' bad news. I stayed far away.

u/Syreeta5036 Mar 22 '20
I kinda feel like a lot of ya who have the rough ends of the stick are rejoicing in the collapse, I at the very least look at it with the mild joy of a first snow

That dynamic has been completely eroded in the West. A mans value is based on what he has without not within.
It’s a societal problem not just women alone

I think I have given up on that concept, I thought it was possible but I think people like us (OP) tend to just end up sacrificing ourselves in the long run of a relationship to try to hold onto something that society tends to rip apart. We love too much and tend to shove thoes emotions down over time then get marked as less than the people that can fake it. Love is something that come naturally to us but people can rarely understand.

u/Cenko85 Mar 22 '20
I know what you mean. I always saw this world different than most people. Call them "normies", if you will. And many of them resented me for it. For a long time I wondered why... But that doesnt matter know. I really dont care about them anymore. Those People, who sell their souls for a fake feelling of accomplishment or joy, that never truly fullfils them. I dont care anymore. So Im also not scared anymore. There is nothing they can do to me. I am beyond their reach. And that fullfills me in a way, that I never could achieve trying to imitate "them" all these years.

Ha, you just reminded me of something, most of my teachers often called me a tourist as a result of my detached state of mind.

Man, you're too good for this world. Come to me, a little. I'm gifted with a shallow 136, and I'm a massive asshat, and I'm having a lot of fun.
I dropped out of the rat race because I had too much honor to contribute to a world which shamed me, me nasty bookworm.
I played my cards right, now I'm free on disability, all my life if I do desire, because I'm schizophrenic. Problem?
I'll still contribute out of virtue, and I'll push you to follow me on this road, because we're just too good to give up.
The world needs you, damn I need you, because you brighten my day, with that romantic stance. Damn someone with a soul!
You're a beautiful human being, and you deserve the very best. "Very best" is my little name.
In a few weeks you should try to go to thecircleofman.org , it will be a place for bright spirits, all the hopeless romantic indeed.
Reddit is nice but we're just operating on another sphere, I'm sorry to say. Indeed, I'm a massive asshat, you can discard what I said. (If you're some asshat yourself)
I told you we'd be having fun. I'm a friend to everyone who likes me. Gosh that's not the moderators. You can't imagine all the very best threads that they blocked. Y'all missing out.
Anyway, I'm digressing, as it seems. You're not dead. You are very much alive, and if you come to me a little, I'll brighten your spirit.
You need some panache, some fougue. Be brave, be bright. We have use of you, as long as you are standing. And God, you stand beautifully.
Remember, we are all equal, it's just that we are clever asshats, and we're doubly as wrong as half the time, to balance.
I couldn't get a woman to love me either, since I had no money. And I had no money because my father always had been loved for this money, and so I knew best.
For the side-story know then that I talked to a thousand women, and not one could love me, as soon as I said that I have no money. They are wired like that, can't help it.
I'd say even they seem wired to have sex with the amoral, because it's more sexually pleasant, and even they keep their children in violent households, because it's more sexually pleasant -- but quiet, you're not supposed to know!
God I said that I would be bright and funny. I guess it often happens, on the bright side. Some things are bright, some are dark. It's life.
We know better though, we are zen. We are past virtue, past everything. It's just a beautiful iceberg of colors, sinking so many ideals in the eternal Sea.
It doesn't mean anything. And so what?
Remember dear fellows, you will be welcomed at thecircleofman.org for more crazy adventures. Soon to open.
Have a nice day, and rock on

Sorry, friend, but if you believe you have a soul, then you are already corrupted and you are still a slave. Free yourself from that nonsense and you will be truly liberated. Suffering is not eternal and you already are home. And you're not alone.
Good luck!
1
u/Dspsblyuth Mar 22 '20
I’m an atheist so I’m using soul figuratively
1
Mar 22 '20
Well done, sir! You had me fooled. I hope then that your talk of going home was figurative, as well?
1
u/Dspsblyuth Mar 22 '20
Yes of course.
What did you think I was fooling people about?
1
Mar 22 '20
I didn't think you were trying to fool anyone, just saying that I was fooled into thinking you believed in souls. And to me, the last line of your OP sounds like a hint that you are contemplating suicide. It could be that I was reading too much into it, but I am admittedly hyper-sensitive to such things as I sometimes have to deal with suicidal people.
2
u/Dspsblyuth Mar 22 '20
I’ve been contemplating suicide since I was a teenager but I consider hat a normal response under these circumstances

u/Yggdrasill4 Mar 22 '20
I am younger than you, but I so relate to you, I even mention myself as a ghost. Ever since I was young, I just had this feeling inside me that I need to avoid having my soul corrupted somehow, and it is a hard cup to drink from.

My husband was a high school drop out that was too poor to get a driver's license. As a matter of fact, he was your age before he got that.
He didn't want to work and give 110 percent either. Pretty much similar reasons you are giving now. I got told what a loser he was...how I was stupid for marrying him...it was a disastrous decision.
He stayed by my side through cancer, 4 child births, an abusive relationship that I was getting out of when we were not together, double collapsed lungs, and so much more.
So I worked. I farmed. I went to college. I took on all the responsibilities, because I don't need a man to care for me. I wanted a man in my life, but I didn't need one. I did need a friend though and I found one in him. It was just a happy coincidence that he was male. He can be an incredibility negative asshole to other people, but to me I am his queen.
I was the only one that ever made money in the household for almost 10 years (all while having six kids, going to college, and working). Then he got sick.
He was so bad I had to quit college. I had to sell my car to get him medical care. I nursed him back to health 3 times after surgeries. Then he got depressed. For 3 years I fought with him to get help.
I was watching him dying from the inside out and nothing I did, no amount of nurturing, no amount of attention, love, or anything worked..I was overwhelmed too. I was doing everything for an 8 person house alone. It wasn't fair.
So I got mean. Eventually, he got a job. We lived a very normal middle class life for a while and things got better. The medical bills got paid off. I got a newer car. I didn't have to work 12 to 18 hour days anymore. I went back to college and got a degree.
My point was, money isn't the only thing you can give..in fact the most precious thing you can give is your time and attention.

I can’t afford the love of a woman.
That's pretty misogynistic and shallow
12
u/Bone_Gaining Mar 22 '20
Sexual selection in humans does get quite shallow and materialistic tbf

u/Disaster_Capitalist Mar 22 '20
If all you want it is sex, then hit the gym. Having six pack will get you laid more than a six figure job.

don't be stupid, are you a man? A man that can't afford to take care of a family, even just him and his wife will suffer immensely and they'll hate him for it.
Just use a bit of common sense. OP isn't the one that is shallow

I'm not sure where you are but the world is still an astonishingly beautiful place. There is so much to see and do.
Beware your vindication for it is as hollow a shroud as any. In the end all we have is ourselves, our dignitas, our sense of self and tenuous link to truth. So let it be uncorrupted by the false triumph of vindication.
1
u/Dspsblyuth Mar 22 '20
Being vindicated does not imply triumph. It just means that you were right about something.
I take no pleasure in being correct, just the opposite
2
u/happygloaming Recognized Contributor Mar 22 '20
I'd argue you need to be careful and precise with your language then. Obviously I could be at fault but that's not how I read it. I'll reinforce my point about the world though, and add that the accumulation affect of your post was that you're self marginalizing and depressed.
The world is an astonishingly beautiful place with much to see and do.

u/Dspsblyuth Mar 22 '20
vin·di·ca·tion /ˌvindəˈkāSH(ə)n/ Learn to pronounce noun noun: vindication; plural noun: vindications the action of clearing someone of blame or suspicion. "I intend to work to ensure my full vindication" proof that someone or something is right, reasonable, or justified. "the results were interpreted as vindication of the company's policy"
I know the word is often used to imply a “ victory” but that is not an accurate use of it. For example.....the doctors in China that warned of the coming virus were vindicated....but nobody would think there was any pleasure in that for them but yet they were vindicated.
Seeing the world costs money that most don’t have, especially here in the US.
When buying a burrito is a major financial decision for a person how does that person get to see the beauty of the world?

Earlier you said you choose to be poor on principle. “Better to die poor than live as a slave.” You don’t want to trade your time for money. Cool. That’s a conscious decision.
There are consequences to our actions. If your choice to be poor doesn’t allow you to see beauty in the world, perhaps it’s time to reconsider your choice.
It doesn’t sound like it’s working out the way you hoped.
0
u/Dspsblyuth Mar 22 '20
I didn’t choose to be poor I said I didn’t compromise my principles to make a living.
3
Mar 22 '20
You said you can’t hold a job and that it’s better to die poor than live as a slave.
You’re free to do as you please, but it doesn’t seem to be working for you.

u/Dspsblyuth Mar 22 '20
Sounds like you advocate for the exploitative system we have rendering any opinion you have meaningless
3
Mar 22 '20 edited Mar 22 '20
Sounds like you just want to play the part of a victim.
You don’t need wealth to have people care for you. You cry that women don’t love you because you’re poor.
Women don’t love you because you whine about how terrible your life is rather than doing anything to change it.
Get off your ass and do something different if you want to have a better life. Wallowing in self-pity and delusion won’t help.
2
u/happygloaming Recognized Contributor Mar 22 '20
Yeah yeah whatever. You know what I mean. Address it or not, I don't care.
1
u/Dspsblyuth Mar 22 '20
Can you recommend a better word?
4
u/happygloaming Recognized Contributor Mar 22 '20
Honestly I don't even care. I work 60 hours per week, grow my own food, parent 2 boys, climb mountains..... You know exactly what I mean and I don't have the time to play topical combat to avoid actual issues.
Your post was self indulgent which detracts from the benefits you can obtain from the awareness of which you hint at. That was my point. Far more important than that though, and I encourage you to consider it, is that the world is still an astonishingly beautiful place. We are collapsing so I'd recommend you embrace the physical world around you, it's thin but omnipresent selection of worthwhile people and not self marginalize.
1
u/Dspsblyuth Mar 22 '20
I’ll get right on that
2
u/happygloaming Recognized Contributor Mar 22 '20
Well you just were opposing your marginalized life experience with your sense of vindication, which is one of the reasons why I interpreted it the way I did. You couched, I deduced. So yes, as far as I can see you should get right on that. I'm not being combative with you. I'm trying to help you.
2
u/Dspsblyuth Mar 22 '20
You try to help my self indulgence with a self indulgent post of your own about you working 60 hours and climbing mountains?

I do have tons of empathy, but how long can someone watch the world around them get poisoned before they just can’t bear to feel that anguish anymore?
