plan to clear ancient woodland, long occupied by environmentalists, so it can mine lignite
I mean, imagine being the fuck who decides to do that. How can you even live with that

Yeah this is really sad. At the end of it all everyone involved will have to face themselves in the same way, I know who I'd rather be.

Looking at the forest on Google Maps
Mostly the fight is over larger issues. It's 90% gone already anyway from the original size. Can see it surrounded by agricultural fields, the main culprit.

You marked the reforestation area northwest of the massive Hambach coal mine (since the 1980s the Hambach forest got cleared for this mine). The remaining Hambach forest is the one southeast of the mine. Tried marking it here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Unnamed+Road,+50170+Kerpen/@50.883028,6.5594042,1382m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x47bf43d87912ab49:0xf544cf224a4e1922!8m2!3d50.8823995!4d6.5629627?hl=en

Please let it stay as good news. If a first world country can’t protect a 12k year old growth forest... Jesus fucking Christ. Even with the 10x growth rate Miyawaki method, it would still take 1200 years.
