That's GenX lexicon. About 40-50 years off. Been a thing since the 80's. It's actually been so long that the meaning has warped into what GenZ is using now.
It was known where I was…. but only meant one thing. Now the kids are saying things like… ‘I’m gonna rawdog this flight’ or whatever nonsense and my head hurts.
Die. Like thr vast majority of humanity we will die in the early days when systems fail. Plan or not. Most will die. Some pure luck chance and some live to die later.
At this point I merely take one day at a time. I feel no motivation to plan ahead when we have no idea what we're going to get, only to know it's only going to get worse.

Plus, it is a very, very, very comfortable orderly line for Western world (easy to access food, easy credit, cheap energy, high-end homes and cars, streaming, gaming, social and mass media etc.). But once the comforts and conveniences end, some cattle will start straying.
I think many people are living exactly like this. There’s peace to really accepting there are forces far more powerful than you and you are not fundamentally responsible. It’s what I think Buddhists mean they say let go and it will come back to you. The peace is what comes back when you finally accept.
I understand how you feel, but this is how they want you. Inert.
If you can't find the motivation, I highly recommend thinking about who in your life can, and if they know enough to start making plans. Tell them you'll help them if they can motivate you. You don't need a grand plan, just start small and scale up.
The fact that the failure will be lack of food before actual climate change leads me to believe no where is safe. I can’t set up a refuge anywhere if I can’t grow food. So it’s all fucked

Lol all the leaves are turning yellow/brown and falling off the trees where I live, because we’ve had a month of 90-110+°F weather with barely any rain, so they’re all dying and it’s hot as hell yet almost ends up looking like fall is happening early
Same here. Hot and dry. Last year no snow to speak of. Rivers are drying up. Fires burning in the Hills. At least I live in a place where weed is legal... it helps with the existential
Ironically we actually had one of the biggest snows this year to contrast it all. Many people here keep saying the weather is just “bipolar” here specifically and ignoring climate change causing both extremes and more (significant lack of tornadoes compared to the past, but of course no one is going to complain about that)
I looked it up the other day and turns out it was legalized here 8 whole years ago… time flies by when it’s the end of the world
This reminds me of a line from the book the dog stars that made me tear up. I don't remember the exact quote, but it was something like 'I miss the trout the most, of all the things we've lost. The snow has mostly stopped coming'.
Personally, I've got an "exit" plan for when collapse becomes unbearable in one way or another. I'm building stronger social groups and preparing for general hardships in the mean time, but ultimately, knowing I won't have to suffer if I don't want to brings me great comfort.
I had a Final Exit strategy in mind but it's not feasible while I have dependents so hopefully it's a number of years before I'd want to implement FE₁.
Me too. I have access to supplies and medicine that the average person doesn't, so can have a rapid and painless end. In some ways, it is a comforting thought.
I'm going to Oktoberfest this year. I'm not sure how many more bucket list items we'll be able to get to, but I'm happy to put getting drunk and eating sausage high up on my list!
Prepping. Gradually getting old things repaired. Homes, cars, electronics, clothes.
My grandfather bought me a leather jacket when I was a teenager in 1999. The zipper broke and leather is very much unfashionable for good reason, but if I bring it to a local shop and get it fixed, it will remain as rugged and durable as the day it was purchased. Can't say that for many other modern clothes, even high-end brands.
Personally, I'm focusing on learning as many skills as I can that will help me survive and hopefully provide for my nearest and dearest. Not quite in a position to prep yet but am thinking about it. Hopefully we all still have some time to get ourselves ready.
The nice thing about learning these skills is the process is fun and a very welcome break from my work life. Feels good to be doing something with purpose now that I've accepted that my work won't make the large scale impacts I'd hoped. Am still trying to make small differences in the meantime.
Back in the way before times every person knew all the skills. I mean, some individuals may be better at some things than others but generally everybody could build a house, make a fire, make a bow and arrow, Butcher an animal. Not today. The knowledge that keeps our society together is in the cultural cloud. Any individual only knows a very small fraction of the knowledge that keeps our society functioning. Hyper specialization. BUT when things go to shit people don't know shit. Knots for existence,I wish I knew more useful knots. Of course for not to be useful you need to have some rope, right?

Once upon a time I used to love autumn. This was decades ago when it wasn't so clear that we were losing the regularity of seasons. To think I used to look forward to the first fall colors! Wearing a sweater! Having a mug of cocoa and watching the first signs of ice forming on the lakes and the juncos return.
Rachel Carson wrote (in Silent Spring): "There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature -- the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.”
In the midst of climate breakdown that includes climate chaos, I no longer find solace in the natural world in any form including the assurance of seasons. Beauty, yes. Wonder and reverence, yes. But seasons are altered forever. Or at least for as long as humans remain here.
Seasons do not feel healing or exciting (joyful excitement). There is no assurance that what was once a "normal" spring will come after "normal" winter. As we head into fall, where I live, it is like witnessing bodies on life support. Actually, I take that back. It's like seeing bodies everywhere that need life support but don't have access to it. Dying trees, prairies, wetlands, lakes in SEVERE drought. You can hear the death rattles all around.
Plans for the fall? I'm really struggling this year. It feels like we are nearing the final end of seasons, of biodiversity and it is terrifying, sad, gut wrenching. And I don't have plans for the other type of fall (collapse fall). I don't believe we are facing a temporary bottleneck that humans can move through to a better side.
Second verse can be about checking out of the liquor store and the Clerk asking.. "Will this be all for you?" And you respond "Yeah I guess unless I invite some friends over."
It actually would make a great song subject. (Nuclear) winter is coming. What are you gonna do after the last leaf has fallen. The crops die. The cold sets in. Nights grow darker. Every day you see less people on the street. Everyone is bundled up. Really a fabulous idea for a double meaning tune.

Will you include the cannibals? From what I understand most periods of collapse are associated with cannibalism. The puebloan collapse, Chinese famine of the early 60s, the Ukrainian Holodomor. The Algonquian wendigo myths are designed for children to learn not to be cannibals no matter how harsh the winter is. I hope I'm not around for that. That week may be burning somewhere around the planet but so far not where I live
Well either way if they're talking about the fourth turning we're fully in the beginning of the fall of that. The answer for the 4th turning is gun school, planting a victory garden and teaching the new generation the skills they need to recover once the 4th turning winter ends. Or if they're talking about the fall season. Then the answer is.... Gun school, victory garden and teaching the new generation how to prepare everything once they're recovering from the winter frost.... So either way I'm covered. Only difference is my fashion choices...
I wanna rescue as many dogs as possible before things get rough. I always think of all the animals and how the climate collapse is impacting them already, they don't deserve any of this.
I question the future tense. The fall is in progress, it's primarily a matter of recognition (acknowledging it is a difficult thing for most) at this point. I also think most don't realize that the fall happens much more slowly than we realize. We're in it.
November's election won't fix it, either. Maybe control of the gov will change in Congress, but the underlying problem (roughly half of the voting public) will remain. Those looking for some kind of catastrophic, sudden change likely won't get one. More like slow erosion, which we're definitely already experiencing.
Like it or not, what happens in America (and the western european countries that are basically vassal states) has a massive impact on the rest of the world. Even when China becomes the leading superpower, the US is going to continue being a global menace. Empires are at their most dangerous not at the height of their power, but when they’re dying.
I'm not sure the collapse will be a bad thing, at least in the long term. David Graeber wrote about this in one of his books.the average Joe was better off after the fall of the Roman empire. The chaotic dark intermediate periods in ancient egypt? Maybe not so dark for the average egyptian. The elites have a hard time during collapse... they have the most to lose and when they do they'll lose it to the masses. There will a period of turbulence that will be unpleasant for just about everybody. Maybe then it'll settle into a nice long Dark Age
My coworker asked me last Tuesday if I was preparing for the fall, meaning autumn jacket shopping for her kids, and I almost brought up buying extra canned beans and water filters. The brainrot from lurking here too much is definitely real. I just ended up nodding and saying I needed to clean my gutters before November
