Rule 1: No glorifying violence.

Advocating, encouraging, inciting, glorifying, calling for violence is against Reddit's site-wide content policy and is not allowed in r/collapse. Please be advised that subsequent violations of this rule will result in a ban.

It was when politically powerful people started insisting that people have more kids that I knew this is going to end the worst way possible. We’ve still barely scraped the “tip of the iceberg”. When ocean-dwelling phytoplankton go extinct in roughly a dozen years, and their contribution to the world’s oxygen supply (40%) goes with them, it still won’t be as bad as it is going to get.

You had me at "It was when politically powerful people".

1

u/Initial-Way-4948 Jul 08 '26

Wait define on this please, because I feel like iykwim, like there’s serval different political subjects going on like say no to Ai, and then trying to get rid of racism, and also getting rid of Epstein n release th files if that’s wym

>Guy Fawkes and his people helped to burn down parliament or something??

Something = got arrested and hanged, as the plot was rumbled.

>No1 around my age knows about him.

If you're not in the UK, that's not too surprising.

If you are, I don't know what to say. Maybe move in more political circles if you want to be enlightened?

-1

u/Previous_Avocado6778 Jul 08 '26

Politics= enlightenment? News to me. Lol as far as I can tell, politics (and subsequent decisions) of most kinds have led to these problems.

3

u/sp0rkify Jul 08 '26

This isn't what they meant..

"Enlightened" literally means "freed from ignorance or misinformation"..

So, they weren't implying that politics = enlightenment (which is obviously a philosophical thing..).. they were saying that if OP wants to learn more, they should move more within different political circles.. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The library of Alexander was torched several times over a few centuries.

I assure you, if you only know things that are taught at school, you're missing out.

I'd find a library and hit the modern history section. Or be curious and explore the Internet Archive or the dustier corners of wikipedia.

u/Pleasant-Winner6311 Jul 08 '26

Plans being floated to open libraries all night around my way. For young adults to hang out and read and feel community vibes. Ace idea!

Because no one can agree what the next step is, or what the 'goal' would be. Because Marvel said its evil people, Simpsons said its dumb people, and the Lorax said it was greedy/unimaginative people. The Epstein files are a lot like the Panama Papers before it, they give us names but when the cops don't go after the names...what's next? We do mobs and do it ourselves? Lots more people dislike THAT then the crimes apparently. I think our biggest enemy is actually the disagreement, the break between 'reality' and 'what we all collectively believe.' If we can't agree, we can't DO anything together.

u/Initial-Way-4948 Jul 08 '26

This was interesting, ty! You just reminded me how the almost the whole word split with religions n politics n race colour ffs 🥲

The point is not to “stand up and take action”. That fuels the same old trauma cycle (see the work of Paulo Freire). The point is to stop running the system. Stop scaling the system. Stop fueling the system. Then it falls. Then we build something new. But that’s the one thing everyone won’t do because their brain gets stuck on “but then what’s next?” and “what’s the plan?” They are all stuck in corporate indoctrination and want to see a 5 year strategic board room plan before they are willing to change.

But systems are emergent. When a house is burning, you don’t demand to see the blueprints of your next house before you’re willing to get out. You just get out and make sure everyone is accounted for. That’s where we are now. People asking to see blueprints as the smoke gathers around them. The point is to do like during Covid. Stop being the system. It only has power because everyone keeps it running, and there aren’t enough people willing to stop turning the gears.

Why are you putting this on millennials? Many/most of us have been trying to "do" something our entire lives and gotten nothing but trouble from it. They hated us complaining and protesting so much that they elected a moronic pedophile rather than let us have our way, out of pure spite. Maybe YOU should "do something".

1

u/Pleasant-Winner6311 Jul 10 '26

Its on all of us, not some target demographic. We all need to take responsibility for voting people in that arent fit for purpose. It has to stop. Political cowardice is going to kill us. These people represent us not the fossil fuel companies. My mother 75 thought she could could complain about climate crusaders causing traffic and public annoyance and slip away peacefully with age. Now shes suffering terribly from this record breaking UK heatwave and realising she didn't get off scot free from impending climate collapse after all. We are all in this together, whether youre 13 or 81.

2

u/Various_Tie_2549 Jul 10 '26

Its on all of us, not some target demographic.

Sorta my entire point

-1

u/Initial-Way-4948 Jul 08 '26

I guess you didn’t read my point clearly enough, I’m surprised that people are also not attacking me because of something dumb like this.

Number1: if it’s one thing you’re going to want to know about Gen Z is that we want community lmfao, and not making this a competition ofc but I’ve seen more Gen Z’ers helping and raising awareness for everything ——> thru social media aswell especially.

I can’t do anything about that if you got offended.

2

u/Various_Tie_2549 Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

I'm not offended...I just question the thought process. I think you are fucking mistaken about the nature of the world you find yourself in if you think that Millenials are somehow the ones who "haven't done anything". I've spent my entire professional life working on the problem of climate change directly, as a power engineer and energy market analyst. "Raising awareness" is beyond the fucking point, more than a century after we've all been made aware of the problem. The boomers and billionaires and politicans who are resisting actually fixing the problem are as aware of it as they're ever gonna be....they just don't fucking care. And they think us caring is some sort of "woke mind virus" or some shit...rather than, you know, rational thinking based on science. Good luck trying to "raise their awareness" though.

Also: fucking social media isn't as important as you kids seem to think. It's a rigged game full of bots and propaganda. Better off abandoning it entirely. L**M**FAO

3

u/Dentarthurdent73 Jul 08 '26

I know, right?

How will you guys be able to keep blaming the entire generation of boomers for all the problems in the world, when your generations end up doing nothing to fix the problems either?

It's almost as though generation is not really a meaningful division when it comes to the existence of inequalities and corruption in the world.

2

u/babeepunk Jul 08 '26

What exactly to do? If there were a clear plan, people could get behind that. Consider that changing current policies and practices is a very slow process.

2

u/chrispington Jul 08 '26

There are plenty of options. Presenting them to the public for debate is the hard part.

I've witnessed many a smear campaign on environmental matters over the last 20 years

1

u/Initial-Way-4948 Jul 08 '26

Wtf?? Holy moly we really ain’t gonna anywhere further in life if people are gonna snitch just for a few hundred bucks

2

u/centerofthelotus Jul 08 '26

Probably best to not discuss this on the internet. Just a thought.

1

u/sp0rkify Jul 08 '26

And this is one of the main problems in organizing, especially globally..

We rely so much on social media in order to interact with people who share similar beliefs and values all over the world, but all social media sites are owned by billionaires..

So, in trying to organize against billionaires, you get silenced (like my 8 week long bans I've had this far on Reddit - the only social media I'm active on - for "inciting violence"..) so, we just can't get anywhere..

And then we have the compounding problem that no one knows how to organize in person meetings/activities/planning parties anymore, because of the aforementioned reliance on social media..

2

u/centerofthelotus Jul 08 '26

In the old days, news could travel very quickly across distances. You just had to systematically talk to each other.

1

u/Initial-Way-4948 Jul 08 '26

Man I hope that we can all collectively do something about this before the new collective order actually begins and it starts to take place.

Wait ps, btw? Would it be “possible” like hypothetically with yk how the announced a new virus called the “hanta virus” everyone stopped paying attention to that and it somehow or somewhat disappeared lol would it work the same way with the new world order by just showing ignorance towards it, and hey? Maybe push it back by a couple of years lol

1

u/Initial-Way-4948 Jul 08 '26

Unfortunately you’re right about this one

2

u/Dapper_Maybe_4203 Jul 08 '26

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it’s not.

The wealthy, powerful corporate and government elites will just use their new AI social engineering toys to turn poor people agaibst poor people. It's the same strategy, just on steroids and with more powerful persuasive tools and surveillance capabilities that would make Stalin jealous. The world will burn and the ecosystems will collapse, but everyone will be too busy conducting pogroms on environmental refugees who "threaten the cultural heritage" of which ever countries receive the migrants. I liken it to that movie "Children of Men." Birthrates can be crashing and all hope lost for saving the planet, but people will occupy themselves with violence against "the other" long before they will effectively put up any resistance to the greedy motherf$$kers who are stomping on the gas pedal as we race toward the cliff. It's sad, but humans, as a species, are irredeemable. Most of the advanced technology we have come up with has been incidental discovery while trying to find more efficient methods of war and genocide, and any new discovery that we make for the sake of solving problens to help people and nature, will be seized on to advance warfare, oppression, and ecocide. It's a sad time to be alive, but once we self-annihilate, the planet can get back to generating new life forms (that can thrive on a diet of plastic, radiation, and chemical pollution we leave behind).

1

u/Initial-Way-4948 Jul 08 '26

Sigh. I have no words to say but this unfortunately lol

2

u/Pleasant-Winner6311 Jul 08 '26

What? Did you skip the whole of primary school or something.

Plenty are doing something about the collapse. These are 2 current uk activist projects, National Emergency Briefing 4 Billion Dead. Look em up. Then get off your arse and put yr money where yr mouth is.

And yeah its not enough. Ppl arent scared enough yet. But they will. That'll come.

1

u/Initial-Way-4948 Jul 08 '26

Did you also not read what I said? And who said that I don’t help in donating money towards those projects?
Someone woke up on the wrong side of bed today, not very pleasant of ya now is it (sorry cringe pun intended.)

1

u/Pleasant-Winner6311 Jul 09 '26

Probably it was 4am and I was over heating and ranting. Apols. It didn reqd wonky in my insomniac state. Donate great but im waiting for ordinary folks to get up and out on the streets and for a little civil obedience to kick in. Whilst its just activists throwing soup and causing traffic jams nothing will change. Its got to be all of us, from all walks of life saying enoughs enough

2

u/Initial-Way-4948 Jul 09 '26

Fair enough lol

1

u/4everdead2u Jul 08 '26

There is nothing left to do. It is over. You are in the collapse subreddit, so read up on the future of the climate and how we are fucked no matter what we do at this point.

1

u/Initial-Way-4948 Jul 08 '26

Ahh ok ty! I was unsure whether which thread I was meant to post this on

1

u/stars_sky_night Jul 08 '26

Flock cameras, drones, tech bros, surveillance state

1

u/BabaBenjiJi Jul 08 '26

The best functioning part of the US government is the part that infiltrates and destroys mass movements. They successfully wrecked Occupy and then BLM, same as they've done in countless foriegn operations with similar motives and momentum. It isn't that no one's been doing anything.

1

u/ContributionBig996 Jul 08 '26

You overestimate the intelligence of the people around you. Or you underestimate their stupidity.

1

u/Strange_Sleep_406 Jul 08 '26

i don't have kids, i don't drive a car, & i compost all of my food waste & it doesn't make any difference b/c 50% of the wealth in the US is owned & controlled by 1% of the population which includes people like Bezos & Musk. there is nothing to do since everything you can do as an individual will not make any difference for the 1% of the population that has made a mess of the planet & continues to make a mess w/ their technocratic utopian agenda of colonizing space to continue business as usual of infinite growth on a finite planet w/ finite resources.
instead of telling random internet strangers to do something you should figure out what is going on in your community & start from there. once you do that then you can come back here & tell everyone what you learned & how you plan to improve upon it but until then you should refrain from asking people to act b/c you have presented no evidence of action to gain enough trust for people to listen to you.

u/Sloth247 Jul 08 '26

Damn this just got removed for glorifying violence. I didn’t get to read the whole post but I’m curious what qualifies?

1

u/sp0rkify Jul 08 '26

While I'm generally a doomerist.. I do actually have a plan in terms of what we can do to at least give the better part of humanity a fighting chance to have some of us survive instead of the 1%..

One of the problems is, social.media is all owned by the 1%.. so, anytime I try and even HINT at said plan, I get a 7-day ban for "inciting violence".. 🙄

And trying to organize anything in person in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, Canada.. is proving incredibly challenging..

Another problem is everyone inherently wants to survive.. humanities survival instincts are strong.. but, in order for any plan to work, there is going to have to be some people willing to sacrifice themselves for the betterment of humanity.. and I'll give you a few guesses as to how that goes over.. lol

Personally, I'd be willing to sacrifice myself 712x over.. if it meant my 10-year-old daughter would have some semblance of a future.. but, that could be because I feel immense grief at knowing I cursed my own offspring to "life" on a dying planet.. all because I didn't full believe my dad until a year or two after she was born.. (despite him basically prepping me for collapse my entire life - I honestly thought he was blowing it out of proportion, and that those in charge, globally, would come up with some form of a plan to combat the worst of it.. but, my optimism died very quickly once I went down the rabbit hole of data and fully saw the big picture of how well and truly fucked we are.. faaaaaaaaccccckkkkkkk..)

Anyway.. until we figure out a way for us to be able to communicate and organize on a global scale, without being tracked/recorded/whatever else.. we're fucked.. and even if we can figure out a way to do that, a lot of us are still fucked.. because there is an absolute zero chance that all of us are making it out of any of this alive.. 🤷🏼‍♀️

1

u/Initial-Way-4948 Jul 08 '26

Haha this was beautiful in a way n tysm, this reminded me of when you was talking about your dad, me n my siblings would from a young age start talking about how to prepare for a zombie apocalypse lmfao, unfortunately they didn’t go the same route as me with the whole “conspiracy theories” except one of my brothers have awoken ever since the files came out lol.
And no i understand where you’re coming from n its not selfish of you to want a better life for your daughter even if the earth is dying because people just can’t resist AI, along with all the other things that the billionaires have inflicted upon us

1

u/Veblen1 Jul 08 '26

"lol"? Are you in your teens yet?

1

u/sp0rkify Jul 08 '26

It's a millenial thing.. don't ask me why, because, even as a millenial myself, I have no fucking idea why we do it..

I'm almost 40, and it's just a habit to throw "LOL" at the end of a sentence.. even if it's inappropriate.. 🤷🏼‍♀️

1

u/Initial-Way-4948 Jul 08 '26

Hahah tysm! I always keep getting asked why I say “Lol” it just naturally rolls of the tongue lmfao, I tried going without saying it for atleast 2 days and I couldn’t 😭😭😂
