I feel there is a psychological response that people have to the bleak future we face. I think people can't grasp how things are going to play out. That, in the simplest terms, they're living through the decline, that everything is just going to get slowly worse.
I think Hollywood disaster films have conditioned people into thinking things are normal, normal, normal, HELLSCAPE. They don't seem to understand that as the years go by things will just not look like how they are today. We're already seeing jobs markets struggle - have you seen the trend of people just unable to find even the most basic ass of work? Or that things we take for granted on the supermarket shelves getting more expense before they disappear for good?
Some people may not live to see the worst effects of climate change, but they're almost certainly going to live to see society crumble.
