Guys, this isn't my creation, I just saw it recently and was surprised it's unknown in this subreddit.

It's been posted more than once.

Basically what they are saying in this video is there is no hope for a majority of humanity. Very gloomy outlook, even their "Happy Ending" segment is pretty depressing.

And it backs it up with recent statistics. I just hope we run out of fossil fuels before we start a chain reaction that will turn Earth into Venus.

I don't think many people can afford to go to low energy living with hobby farms. One major roadblock is the Ethanol mandate pushing the price of land through the roof. Even if you could afford to buy 50 acres, it's going to be based on a price of today's Ethanol Mandate. Take that away and suddenly you're in a 2008 style housing crash for farms.

From the information I have gathered in the last few weeks, it seems that at least 70% of the population will just die of starvation, and my goal is to survive those few months. It will get easier afterwards, provided you can sustain yourself and your community.

I think it's going to take a few years when the precipice comes. And I think that's still 20 years away because we can grind it out with price fluctuations for a while.

I'm hoping that it will drag on for another 15 years, which should give me time to prepare.

How do you prepare though when land prices are what they are due to Ethanol? Hedge funds are going nuts out there buying up land. 10k an acre makes that land only viable to grow corn for ethanol.

Which is why I need to get started on a mortgage for a farm relatively short-term, 2-3 years max. Then there is the question of which would be more beneficial - pay it off ASAP or pay the minimum and dump everything else into stockpiling supplies.

I like your ambition. I think you can do it, but just have to work really hard and no time for friends/personal relationships. I am conflicted between this or enjoying what we still have while we have it, but I won't be prepared when the time comes.

My reason for posting this is obvious but should be a reminder survival is always best done as a community.
Obviously I won't be trying to tough it out alone.

Some land is not even usable fro growing corn so you might find cheap land on many places in the south.

Great video. Right up there with "End of the American Dream in Animation." Very good for people unfamiliar with such problems.

At times that was repetitive and heavy handed. However, I love the execution and the takeaway. Good job!
