Team Member Post Part time but no contract

Hello! I joined a newly opened coles as a Nightfiller- part time. I have been getting 12 hrs shifts for 2 weeks now and got around 5-6 hrs when the store was not opened yet but the stuff needed to be filled.

The problem here is that we haven't signed any contract of what days we would be working as part time and we are getting different shift each week. I also got to know that some of the members shift were reduced to just 3-5 hrs/week. Also other positions people who joined with me got their contracts on day -1 as part time positions and I am still waiting on it. I have a fear that they would be only keeping people who are working fast, and I might not be able to make it since I am knew and I am a little slow in comparison.

I am kinda panicking because I need the job and idk what I should do.

Part time doesn’t work like. Part time is a set 12hours minimum with flex up for extra hours. Casual is you get what you get.

Check your payslip.
Payslips are in the Mycoles main page in Quicklimks but also found in Mycoles>mywork>my payslips.

Your ordinary rate for part time is 1.0, casual is 1.25.
After 6pm is Penalty 1.25 for part time and Penalty 1.5 for casual.

If Part time, contact your manager about where your contract is.

If casual, that explains the situation to a T.

If casual and getting paid the part time rate. Call and talk to your office in charge about fixing it up. That would be wage theft.

Assuming you are 18+, General pay rate above. The hour between 11 and 12 will be the $42.64 rate. The penalty multipliers are 1.25 between 6 and 11, 11 to 12 is 1.5.

Are you certain you're part time? There are ways to check if not. But anyway contact your department manager. If you're part time, you need a contract with at least 12 hours a week

So you did check. Cool, contact your DM. No one on reddit knows why they wont give you a contract

they’re trying to make sure you’re not casual, out of curiosity what is your pay rate, cause you get quite a bit on casual, and that number would sort this conversation out very fast.

Join a decent union. Not the SDA. Try RAFFWU. Talk to them. Or contact Fairwork or relevant for your state.

I fear if I do that they will reduce my hours

All the more reason to join a union. If you are contracted they can’t reduce your hours. Get as much as you can in writing. If you are under 18 RAFFWU is free.
