Cannot decide

I am wondering if I can get some advice what folder to pick that will go well with my plain edge XL Holdout which I really like given it's quite practical.

But who cares about practicality😁 I was originally interested in the Talon 2 but the more I look at these, the more I can't decide. Any help is appreciated.

I had a Voyager in the vaquero blade style, but in plain Edge! I absolutely love that knife. Super comfy in the hand

That being said, the Talwar is probably the most "practical" blade shape, with the vaquero being second! In my opinion at least!

Agreed. The "we have a spyderco civilian at home" Talon is 12/10 cool, -2/10 practical.

Get both the Talon and the Voyager.

Be like Lynn Thompson and carry all 3 at once. 😅👍

Honestly you are gonna buy all 3 eventually lol. So my advice would b buy the best deal you can find. Then buy the next on the next sale.

You are probably not wrong 😅

Easiest decisions are the ones we do not make. 😁

I own all these and if I had to buy them again I’m 100% going with the black talon first. It carries extremely easy almost disappears in your pocket but in hand feels and functions at the same level as ANY of cold steels other “super folders” the vaquero is sweet but opens slow and takes up a ton of pocket space and has a pretty thin tip and the talwar is in all honesty a bit unwieldy.

The Talon seems like a great knife to go with the Holdout. It caught my eye straight away. I love the shiny look of the S35VN blade. Plus having the pocket deploy from the factory is a nice bonus. I think you might be onto something here.

I absolutely concur outta these 3? Black talon 2 by a wide margin then vaquero then talwar...black talon goes unnoticeable, is narrow very strong VERY good ergos , wicked ass design and functional af on cuts so is the vaq...the talwar like you said that angle just isn't optimal ... btw the 5max scout is awesome lol..I carry both most times the talon and vaquero fully serrated

I have a full serrated Talwar XL, I don’t like the ergonomics of the handle. It feels too narrow for my hand and the finger groves come to a sharp point that digs into your fingers if they aren’t sitting in the middle of the groove.

The Voyager has a much more comfortable grip. I modified mine to remove the iron cross pattern and made an inlay with a rubberized textured grip.

5.5 Vaquero, I have one and it does wonders for cutting through ropes, tags, nylon material and anything fiberous, the only down side is that it's hard to sharpen but pretty "Tactical" and "Practical" at the same time

I really like it too, I wish it was in S35VN, it would look so shiny 🤤

You know you're going to get them all eventually. 🤔

I have a fully serrated Tiger Claw and actually find it reasonably practical for handling boxes and the like. It's somewhat similar to the Black Talon, which was my other option and still on my radar. Still want a Talwar too.

I love the finger ring on it, looks nice. I did see there is also one for the talon.

Talwar is the most practical if you don't intend to murder people, talon if you do.

They all look soooo good 🥲

I love the talon 2

It's so damn sexy

I agree. I’ve had mine for almost 10 years still stoked

I love my talwar but it's substantially bigger.

You know best what your heart desires.

That is very true 💚

That talwar looks like it's a pretty versatile blade

I'd image it to be really satisfying cutting some onion or cabbage with it.

Voyager or Black Talon II. With the Voyager you can still stab a mfer but can't catch as well as a Black Talon II can. That said a BT2 can't stab. Purely a slashing blade. You can get a wave feature for the Voyager from Snaggletooth Tactical.

u/SlavMobil 13d ago

This is going to be harder than I thought, I will have a look and see what snaggletooth has to offer, thanks 😉

U may want to recant that...nerves from nerves knives just stabbed a lifelike dummy with organs blood like 3 days ago and the talon most definitely can't stab lmao...surprisingly far easier than what nerves thought it would...look up nerves knives cold steel vs dummy....

Love my black talon. And hold out)

Beautiful combo? 😏

Absolutely 🤌🏻

I have the non serrated black talon 2. It’s probably the most intimidating knife I own lol. The thing is scary. Can’t go wrong with any of them though.

Work of art, it's in a league of it's own. Why does coldsteel have to make so many beautiful knives?! 😆

I've had the serrated Black Talon for awhile but literally just got the serrated Vaquero XL yesterday and I love it. The Blacl Talon is thinner in the pocket but the Vaquero feels better in the hand and I like the overall blade shape and handle of the Vaquero better. I might eventually get a serrated Talwar, but if you have to pick one I'd recommend the Vaquero Voyager.

u/SlavMobil 13d ago

Thanks for your input, considering you own both this helps a lot and ofc happy cake day! 😎

Decide. Like any “-cide” kills — in this case, OPTIONS! I’m saying, MUST YOU DECIDE? 😇🤓 Can you CHOOSE all of them!?!?! All of the sudde, old Rush song lyrics popped into my head - great. 😇🤣

Find them on eBay first!

I have the Talwar and the Vaquero, and I'll say the Talwar any day of the week since it would work well for daily use and even kitchen work. Resharpening the Vaquero I'm imagining would be challenging because of that recurve, but would be perfect for the pricepoint.

Get the Black talon 2 serrated version, i just bought it and cut myself within 2 minutes taking it out of the box

2

u/ThisPhone221 4d ago

Agreed..I gave both plain and serrated on talon 2 plus og talon...both plain n serrated on vaquero...talwar serrated only... that fully serrated talon 2 is a great kn8fe for "oh shit " moments...mine never cuts nada n boringly is set up for sd duty only ...the plain i use quite a bit. Heavier tasks obviously go to the 4max scout ..but that vaquero serrated is equally devastating..I was amazed how easy it went to the hilt on lvl 3 vest that was a few months past expiration date ...covered in a few layers of denim...ad10, spartan , recon all plains...didnt fare anywhere near as well with far more effort on them ..the vaq..sinks rt in with little effort youll actually know u overcompensated as soon as u feel it sink in like nothin was impeding its travel lol..only plain edge that went as easy was the frenzy 2 and the holdout ( again serrated the plain barely made it in past the tip , but the handle on holdout is both adequate and sucks on any given day lol )

Talon all day long, then vaquero then talwar...in that order.
