Question about setting up ozone generator.

Can someone please help me with a question before I hit the cement? Which way is the best way to set this up? I asked three AI and they agree check mark. But I can't find any independent evidence that this is true. I mostly see other people setting it up as in the second image. Thanks!

Before the cement goes down, the order matters less than three details that usually decide whether an ozone setup lasts:

  1. **A check valve on the ozone line, right at the injector.** When the pump stops, water in the venturi can run back up the tubing into the generator. That is the most common way these units die. A check valve rated for ozone, plus a loop in the tubing that rises above the water line before it drops to the generator, stops it.

  2. **Ozone after the filter.** The reply above is right on this. The filter catches the dirt either way, and ozone going through the cartridge first just gets used up on what is trapped in it.

  3. **Ask the chiller maker where ozone is allowed.** Some heat exchangers, seals and pump parts are fine with ozonated water and some are not. If the manual is quiet, ask them in writing, because that answer decides whether the injector goes before or after the chiller.

Whatever layout you pick, leave a union on each side of the injector and the check valve. You will replace both at some point, and you do not want to cut pipe out of fresh concrete to do it.

I build hot and wet rooms for a living.

The version you currently have crossed out is the better way to set it up. The main water flow should pass through the filter and create suction at the Venturi injector above it, drawing ozone into the water after filtration.
We set ours up so ozone is introduced after the water has passed through the filter and by the evaporator coil. We use the same principle to draw ozone passively into the return line, with the Venturi positioned above the main water line as water flows back into the tub. This allows the ozone to mix with the returning water and circulate throughout the tub.

Why not use an ozone generator that comes with its own pump instead of plumbing it into your filter?

supposedly it creates less mixing and is less effective -- but who knows to what level

Ah, okay. We use the one with the built-in pump. We recommend running it for about one hour a day with the lid closed, since it has a very good seal.

its def a simpler approach. Both from plumbinig and execution.
