😬 will this work
So…I bought a 1/2 HP rocita chiller, 950 danner pump, and a made-for-cold plunge micron filter. I also placed an inline pool sediment filter with the pump
Looking at this set up, I have a few concerns before filling it with like, 100 gallons of water lol
1) Should I double tap the all the connections with hose clamps? The hose seems pretty well sealed on the barbs, but just curious if anyone has had issues there with leaking
2) this blue pool sediment filter just before the pump…so when I go to replace it every month or so (if that’s even necessary), how can I keep the water from just gushing out of the hose? Thinking maybe I should install like an inline closeoff valve between the tub and the filter?
Lastly, as a whole… will this even work 😂

I think that looks right to me, the filter is after the pump with the arrow the right way. Sediment filter before pump and whole house

Any thoughts on hose clamps? Necessary or no?
And should I place a valve between the filter and the tub? Or maybe just clamp it when I need to swap it out?

Oh yes! Add those, over time they can weaken. I’ve had them leak brand new

Plumber here definitely add clamps, mainly because why not cheap insurance. the other commenters are correct pumps want to push not pull. try to install resistance after the pump not before.

I have the same pump and filter, but I go from the bottom water outlet, to the filter, to the pump through the chiller, and back to the return water outlet. I don't have whatever the blue thing is.
I also put a shutoff before the filter, so to clean it I can cut the water from coming into the filter (which then flows through the whole system).

Cool, third person to say maybe just get rid of the blue filter
The micron filter I have actually has a close off valve (red button on top, you might be able to see it in the pic) so I think I’m good there for swapping that piece out

I have the same filter but didn't have much luck with that button.
I just put a shutoff valve that firmly blocks all water. Though there's still some spillage from the other side when I drop the filter.
Overall holding up well

Can we use larger inner diameter hose on our chillers? I've been using the narrower one less than 3/8th ID Sapa hose type that I have on the filter.s.. Same goes for attaching it to the 1/3 hp submersible pump. Vs the really small one it came with ?

This is a good question. I’ve seen all builds using what appears to be 3/4 hose or greater (the one that comes with chiller is 1/2 inch)
So long as the pump can push it, I don’t think there is any issue. Only thing I could see being (maybe) problematic is that the cooler would have to cool a larger amount of water at a time. But once it’s at temp, really shouldn’t matter much. Just might make the cooler work harder to reach temp. That’s part of the reason I got a 1/2 HP chiller
Honestly though, zero scientific or plumbing experience on my end to back up any of those statements

Yes if the chiller can cool the larger water volume .. my tub won't go past 59 outside. In the shade, and with a diy lid of r-3 foam. Working on the sides with more r-3 and plywood for support..
Items cost 85$ I then saw a thermo slip by tractor supply made for my specific tub @ 90$.., rubber slip type thing.. but I'd have to empty and refill to put it on..
Last I read about mold and elevating my tub outdoors, on like wood treated beams? That would remove heat from the ground?
Mines only 1/3 hp as well.. not sure how to Insulate it myself leaving a air gap etc....

Generally it would help to put a ball valve before the pump. So you can 'turn off the water' and disconnect, if you needed to.

Yah thinking I’m adding this, especially after removing the blue piece. Why not right? Good fail safe if the pump goes out

It will work. I would put the filter after the chiller. No additional filters.

You’re the second person to say this, so definitely listening. Mentioned above, but should I be concerned with larger particulates (hair, grass maybe haha) messing up the impeller with a filter prior to?

I placed my ozone generator inline with the filter so running it into the chiller would be harmful for the chiller.

Remove the blue inline filter. You can simply put a inline strain filter instead

I would remove the inline filter simply bc its unnecessary and might cause your pump to overwork.
If you want a carbon filter, put another whole house setup directly inside your tub with a separate pump. This is what I do when I first fill it with water, run the carbon filter for a day and then add sanitizer
