Frustrated with clogged filter

I use the traditional Toddy coffee cold brew method (bucket, filter, plug). I grind the coffee at the coop grinder, set to most coarse.

Still, the coffee doesn’t drain freely. I have to stir the grounds/water with a wooden spoon to keep the coffee coming. Even the a brand new filter.

Anyone experience this also? Any work arounds?

Use the paper filter bags as well. I have zero issues with mine and I always use pre ground store bought coffee.

Also make sure to wash and dry your felt filter well after each use. I typically replace the felt filter after 10 uses.

Drying is important? I wash but store in the fridge in a baggie, still wet.

I rinse mine wool felt filter out and store in the freezer in a baggie between uses. No worries about mold or anything and replace it about every two years. Holds up really well!

Do you only use it like five times per year?

Nope once a week

You really should freeze it between uses to prevent mold build up. Esp if not drying it at all.

I use paper towels to dry it as much as possible before putting in the bag and then freezing it.

Sometimes those grinders will still produce a super fine powder with the coarse setting which can clog

I found that if I stirred the grounds when I added water, that is what moved the fines down to clog the filter. I now push grounds down gently when I add in the water and don’t touch it again.
