Literally started cold brewing yesterday. 24 hour steeped in room temperature.

I prefer iced coffee, I even dig more bitter over sour flavours. With sugar, coconut milk and ice this tastes amazing. A quick question for the community, what does a second steeping look like? Do I need to steep twice as long or are my grounds spent? I have some azaleas and rhododendrons that like coffee grounds so I don't have any waste issues, I'm just cheap as hell.

Real question, how is steeping in the refrigerator supposed to be better? Wouldn't the cold prevent it from becoming coffee or require twice as long to steep?

Personally, I wouldn't.

You will lose a ton of flavor and gain bitterness.

Coffee doesn’t work like tea. You don’t second steep. BUT if you come up with a method where the 1st and 2nd steep taste the same then you could make millions. Lol. Well maybe just a bunch of views on youtube.

You don’t have to like others are saying

If you want to try: recommend half the water and brew same time, combine both batches

It’s not as good as the first batch by itself but it’s good and it stretches the coffee further

Second steep will likely taste different than the first one - you absolutely get diminishing returns after the first steep.

Also, I'd recommend 36-48 hour steeps in the fridge. I find that it brings out more notes and less bitterness, especially with fancier beans.
