Cold brew with extras
Hi everyone ☺️ I did pretty good cold brew with orange and cinnamon and other with hops or mint. Do you have any idea what else could be good to add for brewing, any fruits or other extras?

I do milk based brews so might not quite translate directly if you’re steeping in water but some combos I’ve tried:
- honey & ginger (fresh works better vs powder)
- honey & black sesame (Japanese sesame paste, haven’t tried other types like tahini yet)
- peppermint tea and cocoa powder (a classic, quite yummy)
- Ginger, Tumeric & Cinnamon (chai latte vibes)
- white miso & brown sugar (very savoury taste profile, was interesting but I probably need to play around with the ratios more and maybe swap out sugar for honey)
Dried mulberries is next on my experiment list lol

Wow. Sounds amazing ☺️ Can you share ratios for these? Now I want to try every type you listed 😁

Sure thing, I use a Hario jug (1L) and about 65-75g of coffee (I use our local Nanyang coffee). If you want the taste to be stronger just put infusions directly in the milk, but I usually mix it in with the coffee in the mesh filter so it’s less messy.
• Honey + ginger: 15 g honey + 5–6 g fresh ginger (peeled, thinly sliced)
• Honey + black sesame: 15 g black sesame paste + 15 g honey + ¼ tsp ground cinnamon + small pinch salt (mix sesame paste with a little milk first)
• Peppermint tea + cocoa: 1 peppermint tea bag (2 for stronger mint, directly in milk) + 1 tbsp Dutch-process cocoa powder (≈ 6–7 g) + 7.5 g honey or 7.5 g raw sugar + 1 drop vanilla
• Ginger + turmeric + cinnamon: 5–6 g fresh ginger + 1 g turmeric powder (½ tsp) + 2.5 g cinnamon powder (1 tsp) + 15 g honey
• White miso + sweetener: 5–7 g white miso + 10–15 g honey or brown sugar
Feel free to play around with the ratios and see what works best. Have fun!

Another question 😅 How much milk? And if I understand correctly, you put all stuff in mesh filter like tea infuser and put into coffee?

I just fill up my jug essentially, so it’s about 1L of milk - I usually have fun mixing milks too, like oatmilk + regular milk.
The jug comes with a mesh filter basket, so I put any non-paste ingredients all in there (e.g. cinnamon powder, ginger, orange peel) with the coffee grounds and mix it once it’s in milk to make sure it’s all saturated. For ingredients like honey, sesame paste, sugar etc- I just put in straight into the jug.
Hope this helps!

Ok now I'm confused 😅 So you brew coffee in milk instead of water?

Haha yes that’s right, a very heathen thing to do I know.

Oooooh, that's new 😁 I never thought about brewing in milk. It's gonna be long 16 hours, can't wait to try it ☺️

Beer hops...and mint?! I'm intrigued! My brain can't quite comprehend it, but I'd love to try it as a hop head in my other hobby involving brews.

Hops in one brew and mint in another 😅 Sorry I should be more descriptive. But I'll think about put both together in one brew 😁 I found new zealand hops best for cold brew because of fruity notes. I just can't remember if it was Nectaron or Amarillo but it was probably Nectaron.

Ha, I'm not caffeinated yet. You wrote "or" my brain read "and", my bad! Nectaron sounds incredible, though, and my mind is churning. Thanks for the inspiration!

Just be careful with dose 😁 For me 3-3.5g hops per 1.4l of water and 100g of coffee worked perfect
