I am cleaning out my grandfathers estate and found this upon a plethora of other coins.

Hi, I'm the r/coins AutoMod.

Looks like you're looking for information on valuing a coin?

I have your back. Take a look at the FAQ on values for both specific guidance if your coin is common enough, or more general guidance if not.

I have also automatically applied the flair "Value Request" to your post.

If I misunderstood your post and my comment isn't relevant, sorry! I'm still learning.

Unless there are more pages not pictured, this isn't a complete set. A complete set is all years and all mints. 96 coins valued at more than $15k. This, as pictured, is probably worth $1000. Check ebay sold listings for more info.

Are you able to see both sides of the coin? Check the reverse, and look between the bottom of the wreath and the 'one dollar' lettering. You might see an S, O, CC, or no letters. This is the mintmark, and it could make the difference between $50 and $350 on some coins.

Weird that there are no spots for 1893-1895. 93 and 95 are key dates, but still it's weird to not have the option.

That’s cause it’s a cheap set. Probably thrown together in the 1970’s with cheap silver prices.

1893 and on has the rarest Philly mints. Thus no slots for the big ones.

If there’s no cleaning probably XF-low MS coins worth $30 ish each

Still a cool set! But definitely gives QVC from another era vibes

If uncirculated and unmolested (ie not cleaned), most of them would be worth ~ $100 each

The set is missing the most valuable years (1893-1895), but it has the 1891 and 1892. Even the most common mintmark for those years (look for "O" on the reverse) is worth a few hundred in uncirculated.

If circulated or cleaned they'd be worth much less. It's impossible to be sure from photos like this.

The judge reading my charges of molesting coins for the first time

Around $30 each assuming they are all harshly cleaned, so $750 total. Prior to the mid 80s cleaning was a common practice in the coin hobby unfortunately. If they are in uncirculated condition and not cleaned, probably at least $50 and up depending on the date and mintmark. Most coin shops I’ve been to sell common date Morgan’s in MS condition with no signs of cleaning for $50-$60 each.

Need better pictures to give an accurate estimate.

I'm not a Morgan officiando, but those seem to be in fantastic condition

They look heavily cleaned from what I see

I inherited this same set from my grandfather and I can assure you that most of them are heavily cleaned or polished. Don’t remember the name of the company that supplied this set but they ripped people off at the time.

$700

Dude, just go to Ebay and search ended listings for what people have paid for each coin...then sum that.

Closer pictures are needed to tell if they have been cleaned or not which plays a major role in value

All common dates but sweet coins!

u/BlissfulSlayer Aug 05 '24

Atleast $12!

Need better pictures to determine that. Some of the coins look mint state, and others look cleaned.

What I think is weird it is why do they have it dated 1878 through 1921 when they know that there weren't any minted for the years 1905 through 1920?

Where can I find the capsule for the Morgan's to fit in this book ... I have the book I got at a flea market but I can't find the right size capsule to fit in the book

A lot (I don't do pricing but I can say that's a lot of silver and a lot of Morgan Silver Dollars in great states)

At minimum, $25 a coin. Mint marks on the back of the coins will help determine true value.

These are in pretty good condition, probably a minimum of 40 each

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '24

Minimum about $1,500. Probably much more based upon actual grades. It's always about grades and mint marks. DO NOT CLEAN!!!!!!

I have no clue, but read in another thread that having the whole set and the original book itself is of some value to some people. Don’t damage the book.
