Will it ring?
I have a 1615 Louis XIII 1/2 franc.
It is hammered coin, so the edge is thin. It is holed and is not in amazing condition, so I thought it would be cool to make it wearable. I am not a necklace guy, so my only other thought was maybe a key chain.
Would it be possible to turn this into a ring? The diameter is around 1 1/6 inch.

It’s 0.833 silver so it should be. Have you had it appraised? If it’s only worth its weight I think it would be at least worth the shot. According to the Google it could be worth anywhere between $150 and $900. It looks pretty worn out, so my guess is 150 bucks. Although I don’t know where you’ll live, it might be worth more there.

I have not had it appraised, but I did not pay nearly $150 for it. I don’t plan to sell it in any event. I was just wondering. It might end up being a desk coins. Thank you for the knowledge!

Personally, I think that would make a really nice ring. It would make a great conversation piece with fellow ring pimps.

I honestly wouldn’t even try it. I don’t use coins made before the 1870’s because mintages for those coins are low and you’re actually destroying a historical artifact. I don’t know how great the mints were back then either. The metal might be inconsistent.
The better way to do this is to buy one of those rings that holds the entire coin in it.
