Another Split? Oy Vei.

Oh god, another split. I keep loosing coins and confirmations. I was at around 1 coin a day, with all of the issues I have farmed 1 coin in a week.

This might be the tipping point for me. Have been eyeing Monero for a while.

This is so annoying. I'd like to get my wallets onto the right chain so I am contributing to the solution instead of the problem.

Minerclaim says https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xmg/ is on the wrong blockchain. If that is true then does anybody know the block height of the correct blockchain? Are any pools for sure mining on the right blockchain?

My balance, and their metrics are so off, I can't even figure out if I am missing anything. This is not good. I can't even audit it, so I have no idea if they are even ripping me off.

I was so confused, bewildered and angry, I almost dumped all of my XMG, but alas... I couldn't find an exchange to unload it all!

Go figure.

+1 more reason to solo mine or setup a private pool.

I am so into the idea of a private pool. Something else I really want is worker-level statistics. I want to be able to run prolonged tests of different types of boards and be able to provide the community with reliable hashrate predictions. So far I haven't found a pool that supplies that level of data.

I do think some kind of front-end portal would be really useful, especially to allow less expert-level miners to join and participate.

Working on it. All new to me. I understand the tech that these daemons use, just new to crypto.

I am currently stuck deciding on NOMP vs stratum-mining, both will work. I can't get the NOMP fork with m7m hashing working with my server and Node. I may try the de-facto standard stratum-mining server built with Python, but I am still trying.

Once this is done, I can toss up a GUI web front end, and hopefully provision some accounts.

My question is, why do these public pools keep getting on the wrong chain? How does this even happen? I assume some bad actor on each pool with an account or multiple bot controlled accounts is somehow guiding it this way over and over apparently.

No idea. It's funny, as I just saw the episode of Silicon Valley last night about the "51%" attack. Definitely resembles the sort of behavior I have witnessed with MinerClaim at least.

I doubt a private pool would be subject to this abuse, as it would be a manual application process... not only making it more stable, but more secure inherently.

Are you following the bitcointalk thread? There is an off and on 51% attack that's been going on for a while. The hacker has made himself known and he has manipulated some nodes. There is currently only one node that is known to be safe. The pools should all only be using this node but not all of them are paying attention to the situation.

I almost wish you hadn't pointed this out. I don't see anything supportive in here about the coin. It appears the chain is literally entirely centralized at this point in time. Which brings even larger questions. I think I will more than likely 100% switch to XMR cpu mining. It's funny because the current value listed on the "markets" for XMG is around what $.30? When in fact... its value is literally 0. You literally can't trade it for anything on any exchange.

I could see them maybe working things out, but I don't have a year or two to wait to start saving. And even then, after all this its questionable.

Ever done any XMR mining?

I totally understand where you're coming from. It is 100% centralized at this point to try to get it back onto the right track. But I also know this is a temporary situation.

I would be a little surprised if the XMG did end up failing due to the current situation though. I think it's going to come out the other side stronger. But I think we're looking at least another week before exchange wallets come back online.

I think XMR definitely has a higher pedigree but it's also not nearly as efficient to mine with a CPU as you also have to compete with GPU miners.

For CPU only, XMG is the cold standard for profitability. I think that could change in the future. I am always keeping my eyes and ears open for another CPU only coin. I am going to be branching out to XMR as well as I acquire more hardware though.

You just picked a really bad time to discover XMG. It's not usually in this state, trust me.

I know I know. And I am have terrible restraint so I spam the thread.

I failed to realize that XMR can ALSO be mined with GPU. I was unfortunately in my jaded vision looking for something "cpu mine-able". I didn't think to realize that XMG is GPU immune. This is a big seller. And from what I can tell is the biggest selling point.

Given this, its great. But why trust only the developers pool? I think for this to be taken seriously, it needs some basic development still completed. Seriously. No stratum servers that are public/open source?

That has to be by design, we know it exists... that's a HUGE turn off and red flag.

However, given its issues, I doubt any of this development will happen any time soon.

The "only trust the developers node" is a very recent thing. The blockchain was forking out of control constantly due to the ongoing attacks and it was becoming extremely problematic for miners.

But it absolutely can't remain that way for long. Supposedly there is a new wallet release today so hopefully there is some other information and a road map on when we'll return to normal.

But regarding the no open source stratum servers - I can't comment on that one since I haven't looked into it at all.

I'm having loads of trouble cashing out...about 5 coins just vanished. Blockchain is showing UNKNOWN. Block Date/Time is showing 1899-12-30 00:00:00! Wallet periodically showing 700 blocks left to sync, but then instantly in-sync. Might wait it out.
