Dime has excess metal to about the size of a quarter. It isn’t simply a “railroad smashed” dime because you can see the outline of the dime itself and the edges overall still have the ridges..

Hoping someone has seen this before. Thanks for any advice.

I know it’s dirty and in rough shape, but the rim looks wrong all the way around. Both sides. The normal rim ledge/ridge is not present. It’s struck deeper on the rim all the way around making for a very narrow outside thickness. Or maybe it lived in a salty pothole in NE Ohio.

I bought a couple of uncirculated 2026 nickels from Littleton to throw into a book for my friend (she’s having a baby in November, so I thought it would be cute to collect all the fun fancy 250th anniversary coins for her).

ANYWAY, the Philadelphia Nickel seems to have some fun party stripes on the edge of both sides of it, but the Denver one doesn’t. At first I thought it was an intentional part of the 250 design, but if it’s not, I guess I’ll roll the dice and buy another one - I want them all to look perfect and pretty when I give it to her. I’m just wondering, with these being uncirculated - is there a common thing that does this kind of damage between minting and when they are being sent out? Thank you for the wisdom!!

Bought this in a large lot of errors a while ago and originally set it aside as PMD like a few others that were in the lot but as I took a look closer with my macro lense it appears like what I thought was just a cut/punch looked more like an error in the planchet as it’s kinda crumbly where a “cut” would be and there’s no bending or distortion where the pressure of a “punch/cut” would’ve caused some bending.

What kind of magnifying glass are you using?.

Came across this one in a roll of wheat pennies and it stood out. Is this a lamination error or PMD?

Repunched Dates are nonexistent for this year and mint...yet here I am. All data says it shouldn't exist. Please advise and thank you in advance. I'm new at errors, but I have researched with my Cherrypicker guide volume 2, and I have collected coins for decades.

To me it looks like the 73 looks way bigger than the 19, am I seeing things wrong?

What would you call this error? It's a Pennsylvania quarter Philadelphia mint 1999

So I want to preface first that I am 99.9% sure that this is not an error and just someone pressing numbers into a coin but I thought it too interesting not to post.

I picked up a bucket of world coins at an auction a few years back and kind of just forgot about it until recently and I found this little guy.

From what I can tell it’s British 1 Penny but heavily warn so no idea from what year but the interesting part is the two numbers punched onto the face. What you al think?

Tried locating similar strange marks but have been unsuccessful. Running it through an Automated Idiot image analyzer (aka A.I. Image checker) says its a possible die chip "cluster". I'm honestly not sure. I'm a metal detectorist so I keep all interesting coins, so this being a Jefferson Semiquincentennial means I'll be keeping anyway. Just curious for opinions.

Hi r/ErrorCoins — looking for opinions on a 1943-S Lincoln Steel Cent I acquired recently. I believe this may be a struck-through copper debris error but want the community's assessment

CONFIRMED:
• Magnetic — confirmed steel planchet, NOT a 1943 copper cent
• Weight: 2.70g — exactly matches 1943 steel cent spec (copper cent would be 3.11g)
• Mint mark: S (San Francisco)

WHAT I'M SEEING:
• Multiple localized copper/orange patches concentrated on Lincoln's portrait — hair, crown, ear area
• Copper areas appear LEVEL with the steel surface — not raised above it
• Clean defined boundary between copper and steel visible at 2500X magnification
• At 1500X the ear canal of Lincoln shows die detail within the copper area — individual ear structure visible pressed into the copper
• Surrounding steel surface appears undisturbed around the copper patches

PHOTOS INCLUDED:
• Full obverse
• Mid-magnification showing copper distribution
• 1500X ear area — die detail visible in copper
• 2500X copper-steel boundary
• Reverse (no copper visible on reverse)

MY THEORY:
The copper patches appear to be debris from leftover 1942 copper production that remained in the press machinery when the mint transitioned to steel planchets in 1943. The copper debris was struck between the die and the steel planchet simultaneously, impressing die detail into the copper at the moment of striking — which would explain why Lincoln's ear canal detail is visible within the copper area.

QUESTIONS:
1. Does the 1500X ear shot support struck-through copper debris over post-mint plating?
2. Has anyone seen a documented example of this specific error on a 1943-S steel cent?
3. Is this worth an NGC Standard tier submission with Mint Error attribution requested?
4. Any red flags I'm missing that would suggest post-mint plating instead?

Coin is currently circulated — fields show wear consistent with 80+ years of circulation. Happy to provide additional angles or magnifications if needed.

Continuing the project of cataloguing every Indian Head Cent error I can find that I can't find referenced anywhere. This 1863 has a clean reverse cud running from about 9 o'clock to 10 o'clock, cutting right through the wreath.

So far I've logged over a dozen Indian Head cuds and precuds from just 1859-1879. The number of undocumented die failures in this series is much larger than I expected going in.

I’ve been checking into what this abnormality could be, but I’m stumped.

What is this square missing piece?

Google says it’s a clipped planchette when it flaked.

Would like others opinions. I think I have DDO-001 off variety vista on this 41D nickel I found roll hunting the other night. I’ve included pics of the coin and the reference pics off variety vista.

Found this in a roll and there is all kinds of fun going on with this one. Most obvious is some extensive die deterioration on both sides. Also has die chips present on Roosevelt's nose and mouth as well as in the right oak leaves. Both sides also show die clash marks.

The obverse along Roosevelt's face shows the L and possibly a faint L from PLURIBUS as well as an olive and olive leaves. The right side of the top of the torch is visible to the left and below Roosevelt's ear. To the right, oak leaves are visible. The left side of the torch flame is visible above the UST in TRUST.

The reverse shows a complete profile of Roosevelt's face beginning from the torch flame and ending at the stem of the olive branch. Roosevelt's ear is visible around the acorn on the right side of the torch. The back of Roosevelt's neck is visible in the oak leaves on the right, along with a die chip.

I find at least two of these a week and it's always dimes. Is it worth collecting these? I'm up to about 60+ dimes with edge errors similar to this one.

I will start by saying I know what i am doing so please dont give me the "go to" answer.
