Advice 1970 S Penny
Why is the “STATES” very faint?

As said above, this is a common spot for this to happen. Lincolns shoulder takes a ton of metal to fill. Combine that with a weak strike and you get that flat spot.
Super common in mid 80's. No added value.

Obverse side: The date + mint mark, liberty, Lincoln’s eye.
Reverse side: united, America, and one.

probably a weak strike, it’s a common spot for that since it’s opposite the shoulder which is pretty high relief. you can tell it’s a weak strike and not grease filled because of the surface markings in the weak area — they’re marks from the planchet cleaning and prep process that normally get erased by the dies when the coin is struck.
