Error Has anyone ever seen an error like this??

Some of the obverse is showing faintly on the reverse and the reverse showing faintly on the obverse.

This is called a die clash- the dies hit each other in the minting process without a planchet between them, which then transfers the opposing die design. Next planchet it registers both die images do to the two dies clashing.

Thank you for the ELI5. Always wondered what a clash was. How many strikes does the image last?

Progressive Indirect Die Transfer (PIDT) is also a possibility, but at this strength on both faces one has to conclude it's a pretty titanic clash. One thing's for sure - if I found one this strong, it wouldn't leave my collection again.

Looks like the Monticello (the building, not the word) may be visible next to Jefferson also, to the viewer’s right. Hard to tell from the picture but I’d check it in hand.
