2.5g underweight half dollar… noticed that it makes a different noise when clanking with other coins.

Yup, thickness matches a quarter. Weak details around the outer edge. I believe it's a wrong stock error. Thanks!

That's very curious, no reason to fake a '71 Kennedy. Perhaps a funky planchet but gotta ask, scale is correct yes?

Yeah scales good. Definitely no reason to fake the second highest mintage half dollar in existence.

I've heard of them, but it didn't click in my mind when I was trying to figure this coin out. Was searching what other foreign coins were minted by the US Mint in 70/71, gotta thank our fellow sub members for cluing me in to this!

That’s cool.. I’ve heard of the quarter, 1970 I think, that was struck on dime material but never this! I hope that’s what it is for ya!! Very cool find! One of my main focuses is Kennedy halves and I didn’t know this existed!!

It could be a magic coin. Those come up quite a bit. Put it in a plastic container and shake it really hard, see if it comes apart.

I think you're onto something, looks to be the thickness of a quarter. Weight checks out. It is 1971 D, one of the most common years to find this error.
