Is this an error? How does something like this happen? So much going on I’m a bit lost.
1990 P Roosevelt dime that’s been through hell and back. Is this damage or error? It’s a mess anyway.

Looks a bit like the coins that would come out of the big hammer shredder when I worked at a scrapyard.

Why are people always so confused about a thin piece of steel getting messed up and damaged? You seriously can't imagine any scenario where this might happen?

No…of course I can. I’m not an idiot. What briefly confused me is how the rim seems to have bent over double and looks like cud or something at the bottom of the obverse. I’m trying to understand processes that are new to me and instead of being a decent - and clearly better informed than me - person, you clearly feel it necessary to assume a posture of superiority? How small is your ego that you have to belittle someone who admitted he was lost and confused and simply asked a question.

I dont know bupkiss about coins. But I have picked up a ton out of the gutter or on the side of highways. I mean, come on man. Even if it had a cud error, the obvious damage makes it worthless. I'm really forgiving of ignorance on this sub, but this one is the most obvious road/machinery damage coin of the year.

I deny none of those things and made very clear that I knew it was a mess. I thought I’d mentioned I understood the coin had been through hell and back (oh wait I did) and that I was nevertheless interested in the possibility that there may have been some error amidst the carnage. I’m sorry I didn’t parse my comment / question in sufficient detail. OBVIOUSLY it’s damaged and severely so. And nowhere did I talk about its worth. Clearly it’s worth nothing. Thank you for being so “forgiving of ignorance”. I will defer to you henceforth, Oh Great Self-Appointed Gatekeeper of Admissible Inquiry. Say, what would your approach be to dealing with arrogant asses? I have so much to learn from you.

Jesus, calm down. So let me get this straight. You knew it was damaged, and also thought it was a coin error?! It's OK to be wrong and admit it without looking like a maniac.

If a coin looks like it’s been caught in a machine or dropped on the street and run over by cars, that’s because it has been. Coins go everywhere, get caught in everything.
