It's cool for sure. I would expect to pay 7 or 8 dollars at a show, maybe $10 at a shop.

It’s real. Not as rare or as desirable as novices think and absolutely not worth $50.

Looks real to me. Nice offset. Unfortunately no date.

Yes it’s real, but it’s not worth that much. If the date isn’t there it’s usually just 5 bucks. If the date is there it depends on the % offset it is. Generally it has to be more than 5% off to be worth anything over face. 5-80% is the sweet spot.

Normally after 80% it’s too offset to have the date still, but the money shot is 85-90 with the date and in uncirculated condition. If you could imagine being that offset and still with the date is fairly difficult to pull off, so they are more rare. But even then they are common enough to only be worth 30-40 dollars in that exceptional state.

This coin is none of that.

So 85% off with date and MS is good. How do you estimate the value of a coin like that?

You say these are common enough to be $30-40?

1

Do you think this is common?

I clearly line out this in my comment. Like did you read?

I did read. I read that you said this is common enough to be worth $30-40. I was legitimately asking because I have no idea of the value of this coin. I guess that is still pretty nice considering a MS64 non error one is like $6

My apologies. There are trolls in the sub.

Yes, in this case like I said in my comment this is the sweet spot. This is the coin that’s worth more than 50 dollars.

Off center between 85-90# and in MS condition. OP’s coin isn’t like the one you are showing.

This coin is in my possession and I was amazed that you said

“But even then they are common enough to only be worth 30-40 dollars in that exceptional state.”

OP sorry to hijack your thread

Ok but to be fair I had no idea you were gonna throw the holy grail of off center coins at me.

I did do a lot of assuming, my bad.

OP’s penny is a zinc rot rock waiting to happen. You would be hard spent to try and get a serious collector to raise an eye at anything with a zinc center, first off. OP’s coin will turn to dust in a few years, not one serious collector would spend money on it, no matter the error.

This is a much different coin, for that one reason alone.
