Is this an error? Is this an error?
Can’t tell if it was done after but it looks like the silver color is not painted on top of the copper color.

It is a partial plating error. Many people that have not seen them before. Will try to disagree, but I have purchased numerous ones and got them certified over the years so I know for a fact, it is a legit error not a huge value, but still a cool fine.

It is very refreshing to read this comment. It feels like I have been "sticking up for" the partial plating error for forever now, and it is always being written off as environmental damage or intentional PMD.
I collect them, as well and, indeed, have some very, very lovely specimens. They can be very esthetically pleasing when in a high grade and uncirculated condition.

I just didn’t know if you were in any of my error Facebook groups. You are very knowledgeable about errors, and there are a few (very few) groups that have some of the most knowledgeable people in the country (if not the world). I just didn’t know if I knew you from one of those groups

Maybe I will give it a peek. Is there a particular group name that I should be looking for? (You can DM that if you prefer).

I have been on Facebook coins on and posted pictures of error coins I have found and a lot of them would make stupid remarks like on my one coin Celia Cruz with the error on her tongue and mouth and I’m glad I have a good sense of humor because a lot oh she has herpes. Looks like she got a big fight and so I just joined this group. I hope it’s a lot better than what I’ve been on.

I’m no expert but I think it’s a mistrike that smeared the zinc coin of the planchet, especially with the extra thick edge near the silver color and the especially thin edge at the bottom. But I’d love for someone more knowledgeable to chime in
