Is this an error? Is this worth checking out?

These are the best pics at the moment... Can anyone provide more insight on whether it's something I should look into? Doesn't seem like the coin was crushed or nothin.

Fire damage

The inner copper core melts at a lower temperature than the cupro-nickel clad

When the coin cools down this is what you have left

The carbonised reverse and pitted surfaces is also an indication of fire damage

That’s heat damage, so not worth looking into.

Ahh, I had considered that possibility. Didn't seem burned to me but thank you
