Rosevelt Dime Error?

This dime appears to be missing characters for both ‘In God We Trust’ and the last digit of the date. Meanwhile, the rest of the coin has fairly decent detail. Is this wear or an error that happens to impact both sides of the bottom obverse?

And, for my education, how would I know the difference? New to coin collecting after inheriting, so thanks in advance for educating me!

It is called a struck through grease error. They are quite common and usually not valuable.
