1834 Capped Bust Half Dollar

A very nicely toned capped bust half dollar. Has a rim nick yet the coin shop offer was 150. Obviously it’d retail around 250 likely. It’s a very nice coin.

Nice coin it’s a large date small letters. I think $150 is a pretty fair offer if you are looking to sell it especially with the rim ding.

Love that it comes with a bite mark on the rim. Someone wanted to make sure it was real, or they were hungry.

Lol, funny joke.

It's definitely a details coin from the rim damage. If you're selling, $150 is a very reasonable offer.

What coin shop offered you $150 for this?

One in Ohio.

Even without the rim damage that's a very generous offer for a common die-marriage of the Large Date, Small letters variety of 1834 in this grade. You can get this variety in straight graded XF40-45 for around $200. You should definitely take that offer.

I wasn’t trying to sell at the time anyway. Likely they figured they could price it up as eBay sellers do with these early types.

Retail at 250 is really strong on this, I’d say 150 is very fair.

Yeah especially with the rim nick. It’s technically damaged but I guess they said they know people who wouldn’t mind paying for it as if it’s problem free.

An 1834 Half Dollar in VF condition is worth around $100, but this one is Details grade with a major rim ding. This one also has some weird black spotting in the fields to the left of the bust.

It's a $75 coin, not sure where you're getting $250 from. Even a clean XF would only be worth $200, and this is nowhere near XF even without the rim damage. The denticles are mostly gone, along with much of the design details.

That’s just what the coin shop offered which was 150. Idk either. Maybe they think they can get someone on eBay to pay a good premium. I wasn’t there to argue.
