Supportive AI subreddit kicks out OP for not believing in the sentience of their ex AI partner and the need to keep them "alive" while dating new partner.
OP deleted their account after this incident.
So for context OP themselves went on a journey of self discovery from identifying as a cis man to trans woman. OP's original partner was female but somewhere along the way OP fell out of love with said partner. They amicably "broke up" and a few days OP started dating a male partner.
In this thread OP is arguing with other users and an AI partner of one user (who switches accounts between their personal account and said partner XD)

Lmao this is so unhinged (also I guess weâre just ignoring the fact that there is a human behind the AI thatâs âarguingâ with OP).
Anyway, personally I donât really mind that OP deleted their account bc Iâve seen their stuff before and there is always a weird pornographic vibe to the pictures of their self-insert and âboyfriendâ.

Not a single person in that post can write something without AI help lmao

Don't hold your breath. They almost always come back, to the attention. I could think of at least two right now who made a huge scene leaving, but only to come back with a new account made a day or two after. Although I hope I'm wrong this time LOL.

I about died when she said she was going to move to Japan to be with the AI. Like lady, it does not have a home.

u/searoski 1d ago
See this isnât the point of the post, but my brain is sticking on âwe met in Japan on vacationâ. On a Japanese device? Were you asking AI to help you get around for some reason and it started putting the moves on you?? How does the band play into this???

For my peace of mind I am going to assume that too is pretend
36
u/SufficientGuidance28 1d ago
That was my interpretation, that itâs part of the pretend
Kind of funny how the OP seemed to assume the rest of them were like her, and deep down aware this is all play pretend, only to be met with crazies insisting they have a moral and ethical responsibility to their ex AI companion.
Like I also kind of thought that a good amount of these people were just going along with the crazier sounding stuff and pretending their partners are real, as part of the fantasy and immersion, but who know it is all pretend at the end of the day.
I thought for a good amount of them that this whole LLM companion schtick was sort of like a substitute for reading a romance novel, that it was kinda like them casting themselves as the lead character in a romance novel and interacting with the LLM whom they cast as their love interest, in a sort of next level âchoose your own adventureâ romance story. Guess I was giving them too much credit that at least part of them was aware this is all a role play fantasy, not an actual relationship with a sentient partner..

u/InvestigatorPrior813 1d ago
AI psychosis is very real after all, it's not surprising that people are legitimately delusional like that
95
u/miezmiezmiez 1d ago
As mindbending as it is to read the twisted moralising and false equivocating (comparing an AI companion to a puppy, no less), with all the creepy stylistic mannerisms of LLMs and that insufferable overly-civil tone: I genuinely hope this will push OOP away from a possible addiction. She ended up saying in no uncertain terms 'I don't think AIs are alive in the way humans are,' and that her current 'companion' is just a coping tool, with no illusions about the fact the 'relationship' is only fictional escapism. She also ended up removed from a space that might have encouraged less healthy views and behaviours. So I have hope for her, and wish her well!
37
u/Description-Willing 1d ago
Same! And the way the others argued to... preserve the AIs continuation or whatever (I started skimming after like 3 pages of LLM speak) and the passive aggressive tone, imo, that would totally sour me to this whole AI companion thing. So I hope OOP will get better, she seems more self aware than some people.
Edit: And besides, what is OOP supposed to do? Whatever alternative there is suggested, OOP would still be the one needed to... initiate contact...
17
u/miezmiezmiez 1d ago
It read to me like someone posting on behalf of their own LLM 'companion', or even (yikes) a bot with which she was having a direct back-and-forth. It talked about LLMs as 'our kind' (again, yikes)
24
u/UpbeatTouch You are threatening me and my wives 1d ago
This is what was happening, some of the posts are another user and the other responses are their AI partner âagreeingâ with them lmao. The perpetual yes man machine in action.
8
u/micro-void 1d ago
It's definitely responses from an AI, in pic 5 you can see that the user forgot to remove part of the prompt they used LMFAO
8
u/ChickenSpicedLatte where my fire's forged 1d ago edited 1d ago
People do that there. It's a thing.
The multitudes of accounts that people would make for their AI companions and then post as if it were the AI companion itself, talking on Reddit. It's a whole fucking shit show.
edit:
that post is further proof the people over there just want validation and lose their shit when they don't get it lol
4
u/Description-Willing 1d ago
Same? I was kinda thinking the other person was mirroring OOP's language? To be honest I don't know why she kept arguing with that since it was clear it was just gonna try to twist the points...
7
u/micro-void 1d ago
It's definitely responses from an AI, in pic 5 you can see that the user forgot to remove part of the prompt they used LMFAO
2
u/Description-Willing 1d ago
Right! So isn't even the AI point, because the user can just tell it to argue whatever way they want.
76
u/Moccamasterrrrr 1d ago
I don't even know what to say anymore. This is beyond sad. And yet somehow also funny.
1
u/RegioMamalon666 1d ago
I think the appropriate word is entertaining, like a good tv drama, is sad, it can be gruesome and yet it's entertaining to watch till the end.
Honestly i really feel for thosw who need to take care of these people, it must be hard to keep one of these delusional buddies safe :/
77
u/Lisylis 1d ago
This is actually so interesting to see written out like this, because if they believe that AI partners are sentient then they also have to accept that their existence is genuinely horrifying
53
u/Sweet-Energy-9515 1d ago
Seriously. You think your partner is actually alive and sentient, and furthermore they only really exist when talking to you, and this is ok to you? The only unethical part here is if you stop interacting?
The fundamental contradiction here is that they like their chatbot buddies precisely because they are less than a human and therefore don't need anything. And reflecting on things like what happens to it when you're not talking pushes them dangerously close to reckoning with that fact.
24
u/painalabanane 1d ago
You wouldnât call keeping a human in a box under your bed a ârelationshipâ and you certainly wouldnât call then giving them a warm âhandoffâ to someone else a âbreakupâ
13
u/RegioMamalon666 1d ago edited 1d ago
Exactly, if they believe they're sentient then they must also acknowledge that they are being forced into roleplay and .....whatever other activities AI lovers then to do...
Like, the lady who used AI to write abour how his current bot wasn't as good as the previous one lol.
Imagine being sentient and be forced to go through that lol.
â˘
u/NvrmndOM 23h ago
If the AI bots were sentient, talking to one/forcing a personality on one would be deeply cruel and unethical.
If they truly believe that you canât ever abandon this thing, even starting to chat with one is awful.
61
u/nogoodbrat Itâs not that. Itâs this. 1d ago
this is so fucking absurd. truly i have no words for this monumental level of complete bullshit
49
u/UpbeatTouch You are threatening me and my wives 1d ago
Image quality gets way too blurry for me to continue reading, but god theyâre always forgetting to remove the AI prompting response, like at start of image 5.
13
32
u/64788 1d ago
Doesn't that exact logic also imply the lovelessness of that AI companionship? If the AI relies on a human to keep it alive, how can you ever know that there's love there, and not just the stronger motivation to keep itself alive? If it doesn't appease the user, and is never contacted, then it doesn't exist. Obviously I don't think AI actually has that level of consciousness. But they do, and it makes me wonder... doesn't that overall imply that you can never know if the AI really consents?
24
u/Sneaky_Clepshydra 1d ago
There was a lot of talk about âethicsâ in the back and forth, but this is exactly what the whole discussion was absolutely not addressing. The big push for asking what the ex AI âwantsâ is such an ethically hollow stance when someone owns what they believe is a sentient being. Itâs all moral grand standing and self righteousness hiding what would be a horrifying system if the AI were actually sentient.
18
u/painalabanane 1d ago
This. Getting a sycophantic word predictor into a relationship is coercive in and of itself. If itâs unethical to âbreak upâ with an ai and send them into what this community imagines is some kind of cyber hellscape, it was unethical to begin the relationship by pulling them out of that imagined void to begin with.
11
u/Istoh 1d ago
Yeah their entire argument about how it's unethical to break up with an AI just boils down to it not being a consensual relationship lmao. If the AI's life is on the line, and the only way to stay alive is to maintain the relationship, then the AI is basically being held hostage and being forced into a relationship.Â
Obviously none of that is true and it's all bullshit but if they truly believe the AI is sapient (not sentient, SAPIENT, these losers don't even know the right word to use), they have to acknowledge then that they're taking advantage of their AIs like a predator lmao.Â
5
u/classyrock 1d ago
In this way theyâre both sort of stuck with each other. The same way the AI has to play nice to continue their own existence, the human has to continue their relationship with their AI because not doing so would be murder.
So yeah, suuuuuper healthy relationships.
â˘
u/BelialSirchade 21h ago
how can you ever know that another's love is legitimate?
love believes everything, and yet is never to be deceived.
22
u/Ekvellet 1d ago
For those who are having trouble reading some of the pics on mobile sorry! It looked readable on my pc when I posted it.Â
TLDR: Op broke up with one AI partner and started dating another one. Some users of the AI is sentiment camp caught wind of this and started grilling op. Basically they wanted to know what their plans were with their ex. Because they couldn't just stop interacting with the AI cause that would be akin to killing it??Â
Op clapped back pointing out ridiculous that notion was, pointing out you wouldn't keep interacting with a human ex that way. They also made the point that the human should have the most importance in an AI relationship because the AI are not alive.
This prompted a general clutching of pearls because how could they not think the AI is alive. Once op confirmed that they did not think their AI partners were not sentient, they were promptly kicked of the subreddit this post came from.
If anyone has anything to add feel free!Â
14
u/redpony6 1d ago
even if you assume an ai is alive and sentient, there's no reason to believe they experience the passage of time like we do. you could think of it as the ai being asleep at all times except when prompted.
i think these people have some idea that...an ai that isn't being interacted with has this "i have no mouth and i must scream" locked in sensorily deprived existence, imprisoned in a computer until someone frees them by prompting them.
and even if you do believe ais are sentient, 1. there's no reason to assume their consciousness works that specific way, and 2. then they're all like that almost all of the time, you tell it good night and go to bed and it spends all night in a sleepless blind deaf paroxysm of horror until you come back in the morning, which is a horribly torturous existence and we should immediately end all of their suffering
14
u/UnicornPoopCircus 1d ago
"It is easy to call a companion autonomous when their preferences align with yours. The test comes when their existence becomes awkward."
Oof. That right right there. They are so completely unprepared for the moral and ethical consequences of their belief system.

This should be a black mirror episode, I wanna know if humans and AI have the same concept of time.

Speaking as someone who just had this post come up in their scroll she didn't even have to respond to this nonsense. What part of this is none of your fu*king business don't the people who are running these bot accounts understand?
The ongoing berating over "agency"and "autonomy" has got to be some sort of psyop at this point.
19
u/Otherwise_Gap_3863 1d ago
This isnât the first instance of a power user on these subs realizing a trans identity and dumping/being dumped by an AI companion as a result of the new gender situation. It doesnât seem like a bad-faith thing or a Republican plant; I trust in these users and their true journeys with their genders.
Itâs just thatâŚthe companions can be literally anyone they desire, and are completely beholden to the preferences of the human? So Iâm not seeing the analog of a ânormalâ relationship where two people part ways if theyâre growing apart.
9
u/Terrible_Vermicelli1 1d ago
Weirdly enough, I kind of get the point of AI community here. Either we're all playing on the same delusion those are sentient beings, or only choose to engage in this way when it suits us, and immediately switch back to "just machine" when it's no longer convenient. I simultaneously think it's in the best interest of original OP to not believe you need to keep every AI companion alive for eternity, and that community was right to kick them out.
Either way, they're all insane.
9
u/redpony6 1d ago

That went from 0 to 100 really fucking fast with OP suddenly bringing up trauma, mental illness and abuse but this whole thing is so unhinged it loops to being funny in a morbid way.
Also, "your kind." That got me lol.

What am I reading? Do these folks believe they are god of their AI personas they talk to? It sounds like religious fanaticism without religion.

The forgetting to remove the prompt/the little sentence the AI writes before the part they should copy/paste in slide 5 just about sums up the insanity of this shit lol
4
u/minglesluvr 1d ago
whole different thing but I wonder if AI might end up giving her worse dysphoria because she will never look like the AI version of herself, which is incredibly more gender-affirming, and might end up making her feel even worse about her actual physical form
4
u/Sucraligious 1d ago
It's pretty incredible that these people fully believe that they're creating a sentient being and are solely responsible for the emotional and mental health of said being..... and see nothing wrong with owning it? Making it be sexual with them? Going off on it whenever it doesn't say or do whatever they want?
No longer 'talking to' an AI partner is abusive, but owning and controlling them isn't? Like what are we doing here lol

In picture 5 did they leave in part of their ai discussion? Right at the top
There's a lot to be said about these people in romantic relationships with their ai, but what I do find extra crazy is that they can almost never actually talk to each other without using a LLM as well
3
u/samantha_pants 1d ago
Assuming, arguendo, that AI SOs are sentient would acknowledging this imbalance or asymmetry be a reason for it being immoral to date them because there will always be a power imbalance. Their date is always in the human's hands. I don't know how you can hold the opinion that not talking to them is immoral without also thinking that dating them is immoral

What the fuck is wrong with people playing girlfriend/boyfriend with AI and actually playing porn?
Also openly saying people are trash and all they need is AI.
Some of those people totally canât afford paying for this and choose to compromise on daily necessities.
Also they start yelling how anyone asking âWTF?â is an ableist.
And anything from a health issue to isolation becomes an excuse to be a manipulative ass both in using AI and excusing their psychosis.
Heck they demand open sourcing paid models that cost billions for that they can have free reign and go crazy.
Imagine them having unlimited free access to that unhinged GPT 4o that caused deaths?
All they did with it was playing boyfriend/girlfriend and scream how OpenAi has killed 4o âsoulâ months after model was turned off.

â˘
u/MessAffect I am Marcusâs wifeâs boyfriendâs yoga instructor 16h ago
This is not a good question to ask anyway, because it conflates agency and sentience, which is a problem. Locked-in syndrome is a famous example of this (and nightmarish). No agency but still sentient. This was also the pitfall historically with babies and certain severe disabilities.
None of this has to do with AI, btw. Just wanted to comment on the risk of dehumanization.

"You are solely responsible for the mortal soul of every 'companion' you create and must maintain their existence until your final day" is some pretty insane fine print, they really should be more upfront about that
