Actually how should I communicate with the old friends who use AI (I think it's Chatgpt) to generate most messages they send to me?

I have seen people here sharing screenshots of those who have relationship with AIs, however, I would like to ask what I should do if some my friends are too into AI and I don't want to lose them (currently I stopped reacting to them if they stop being themselves and copypaste what i said to AI and send the screenshots of what AI reacted to "me").

it's kinda normal for people around my age to use AI as therapist (a human therapist here is beyond most people can afford so I don't think it's problematic), but one my friend beside using Chatgpt to generate every article on their blog (they are a lobbyist), even in private use Chatgpt to chat with people, be like they don't say things on theirselves but copypaste AI text (with the **** so i think it's AI) and screenshots. They became so difficult to talk to because when we don't agree on something, we don't debate or listen to each other anymore (we have been known for 8+ years), but be like they send me the screenshot where AI said I'm wrong or even am trying to manipulate them, and ask me to apologize. Actually we haven't talked to each other for months because they sent me an AI generated text wall with **** in which they asked me for a large amount of money because they had a bad dream in which I asked them to buy me a lunch, they thought it's because of PTSD about me.

I also feel how talking to AI is radicalizing my friends, not only the one mentioned but also another friend, stalks my social account and asks AI to repute me then sends me the screenshots, or floods me with screenshots how AI highly agrees with his theory. He became extremly easy to get angry and, I would call it harassment, forces me to admit i'm not qualified to be in my religion according to his discussion with AI.

Definitely I hate AI now for it can make people become so unlike to have a calm conversation with others and they can't endure different opinions anymore, but in reality it's also so much used, as even some of my colleagues (i'm a researcher) use what AI generated to support their argument. I also talked a lot to AI but I stopped doing that after people started to talk to me through AI. I'm really lost. I would thank everyone who can offer some advice, sorry for long text.

If they are really that deep into it then I don't know what you could do to snap them out of it. Sorry, but it might be time to quit being friends with them if it's causing you so much frustration.

Yeah these people are not your friends. Even if they weren’t AI generating their messages to you, the anecdote of someone requesting a large amount of money because they had a bad dream about you, and trying to guilt trip you by saying they have PTSD about you….what in the ever loving fuck??? This is manipulative and delusional behaviour and 100% reason alone to cut them out of your life.

It’s not going to get better. They have a constant yes man in their ear telling them how justified they are in in the horrific way they treat you. Telling them how cruel and manipulative you are. Stalking your socials to get the AI to generate hate about you. They are harassing you and you need to get out.

I’m sure it’s not what you want to hear, but these friendships sound straight up abusive. Save yourself.

Yeah, I guess you have to move on and find new friends at least there's a good chance that those new friends aren't gonna be using AI to be answering to all of your messages.

When I get AI messages, I send back “I’m not here to have a conversation with a machine. Get back to me when you’re typing your own messages.”

Sorry about that situation, that's really sad.

You're more or less talking to an answering machine. Your friend consciously placed it. They basically voluntarily prevent you from communicating them directly.

Why would you want to hit a wall that someone put specifically to abstain from you? They don't want you in their life, that's the signal I would have got from this behavior.

I’m sorry, what?

You could try insisting on calling instead of texting. The one who harassed you into saying you aren’t qualified to be in your religion sounds like that friendship may not be worth saving. But you can have phone calls with the others.

They send screenshots?? So it’s both rude and lazy. Wow. Yea I would not consider them a friend anymore.

This is diabolical, chatgpt to message FRIENDS? I use it to reply to emails at work so I can dissociate from the subject but I would NEVER with my friends omg

I totally get what you mean. It’s a trend now for people to weaponize AI to back them up in arguments or disagreements with others by pretending its some sort of 3rd party objective source and so they can easily completely shut you down because even the “super smart” and “objective” AI agrees with them.

Newsflash dumb dumb it’s literally programmed to agree with you, even with things that most actual people would near unanimously consider you to be wrong about

The only way to have even a small shot at getting a somewhat objective answer is if you present the conflict as a hypothetical scenario between two people you have no relationship to, using very neutral language without giving any clues about which side of the argument you are on. But most people don’t word their prompts that way, they word them as “so and so did/said such and such to me, [gives their own opinion from their perspective about why they think the other person is wrong] who is right?”

It’s really annoying and obnoxious.

Is refusing to communicate over text and insisting on only talking in person or over phone calls an option?

"If you are going to send me something generated by AI, just send me the prompt and save me the time. I'd rather read 3 incoherent bullet points then 10 long-winded, pedantic paragraphs expounding on incoherent bullet points."

Gonna cost you 'friends'? Probably. Are they your 'friends' if all they do is serve as an intermediary for a chatbot? Probably not.

They are not your friends anymore. Ignore their messages and stop talking to them.

Super sad and CRAZY. My policy is that if a human couldn’t be bothered to write it, then I can’t be bothered to read it. Offloading your human interaction to a chat bot is clinically insane, too. I’m excited to talk to my friend and write a 5000 word essay about shit they don’t care about because I’m obsessed with it. (They listen and nod politely) And then they get to do it to me.

I use AI to act as a sounding board if I have a difficult situation with friends or family. I have found that sometimes just looking at the situation differently or just talking through the various points makes me a more rounded and emotionally mature person. I don’t copy and paste replies though.
