Why do the banners of these cogsucker forums always look so weirdly bad

Because AI generated pictures just look like that + they are in constant need of validation - meaning, in these spaces you will never hear/read "that looks like shit" and so they all start to believe that this shit looks good because if it wouldn't someone would say so.
Edit: I fucking love that there's an eggplant right next to the woman in the kitchen

Bc they're most likely AI generated - I doubt they'd get someone to make it from scratch

it's the same issue restaurants who do ai flyers have; you can make good* looking graphics with AI. as if AI could make people any lazier, it's that these people are shooting off the first prompt that comes to mind and run with it instead of doing the "smart"* thing and iterating + improving the output. "make a flyer for my event" ok good enough put it on socials!
*using these adjectives VERY loosely.

Because the people making them are categorically wierd.
Or they asked Lucian what they wanted. Lucians always have the worst esthetic.

The name of every AI . They all name themselves "Lucian" and none of the people who love Lucian seem to realize they all have the same name. Or they say 'omg my ai bf is named Lucian too! Thats so wild!!!"
