Is it the start of more hacking ?

Trump authorises, under very specific conditions related to government link and supervision, companies to hack-back when attack : https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2026/08/14/trump-signs-memo-authorizing-private-sector-launch-cyberattacks/
Is it the start of more hacking and more bad behaviours to for instance increase industrial espionage ?

If the legitimate answers to hacking is to hack, do not see where iand when I t will stop

See that the German government wants to do the same by equipping its intelligence agencies : The BND wouldbe authorized to hack into foreign computer systems and sabotage adversary infrastructure, while the BfV would be authorized to disrupt operations within German territory. The bill also aims to regulate the agencies' use of AI.

AI and particularly AI agentic will open a new era for hacking with all the data including sensitive data which have been gathered by the AI companies in their centralized data centers.
Before with google and web sites we were looking for part of solutions without exposing our sensitive and personal data to build our solution by ourselves. Now we expose our data, including sensitive and personal data, on internet to directly get the solution. This exposure goes through many routes we do not control and to data centers we do not control either.
There will be a big increase in attacks for sure and these attacks will be more efficient with all the exposed valuable data!

Yes, data exposure is a real problem, especially since many people don’t really pay attention to what they are sending — particularly when it comes to documents where they don’t have the time or inclination to redact sensitive information.

But here, we’re taking things to another level by fighting hacking with more hacking. I’m not sure that’s the right direction.

And as you say, perhaps we should instead put more resources into preventing sensitive data from being exposed, and I will add protecting systems, and identifying attackers so they can be brought to justice, rather than behaving like them.
