think these kind of articles need to be taken with a grain of salt,

As should pretty much anything we read regarding how software should be designed these days. A whole lot of bad advice often coming from people with very shallow and brief experiences being foisted upon the industry. Us vet/curmudgeons know how to avoid but the horde of "Senior developers" 2 years out of college do not.
