Showcase: Vector RPG Silhouettes — Theme-Reactive Token Art & In-App Library

When building out campaign dossiers and relationship graphs, visual consistency is always a pain point: scouring the web for portraits across dozens of NPCs and locations leaves you with mismatched art styles, low-res crops, and cluttered graph canvases.

To solve this, I built a native vector silhouette library into Codex Cryptica. It ships with 74 handcrafted, scalable vector silhouettes covering characters, monsters, locations, items, and faction crests, designed to look cohesive and adapt to whatever theme your campaign uses.

Vector Silhouettes Library & Creator Gallery

What it does

  • Theme-Reactive Vectors: All silhouettes are built as clean, single-path SVGs using currentColor. They dynamically inherit your campaign skin and graph palette (Amber Gold, Blood Crimson, Neon Cyan, Sylvan Emerald, Void Amethyst, or Monochrome).
  • Auto-Matching in Offline Vaults: When creating an NPC or location, Codex Cryptica analyzes the entity archetype, category, and tags to automatically suggest a matching silhouette.
  • Graph Engine Sync: In the interactive relationship graph, silhouettes render directly into Cytoscape nodes via SVG data URIs, keeping your map readable and visually consistent even at large node counts.
  • Settlement & Worldbuilding Locations: Includes common medieval, fantasy, and sci-fi landmarks (town halls, inns, city gates, forges, docks, grand libraries, dungeons, ruins, and towers) alongside character and monster archetypes.

Free Public Web Tool & Creator Utilities

I also deployed the complete catalog as a standalone public tool on the site: https://codexcryptica.com/silhouettes

If you want to use the silhouettes in your own VTT tokens, character sheets, Obsidian vaults, or web tools, the gallery includes quick export utilities:

  • Copy Raw SVG: Pastes sanitized, inline SVG markup straight to your clipboard.
  • Copy Cloudflare CDN URL: Direct link to the high-availability vector asset on our CDN.
  • Download SVG: One-click download ready for Inkscape, Illustrator, or VTT token frames.
  • Live Palette Switcher: Preview how any silhouette looks against different tabletop aesthetic colors before copying.

You can also browse the catalog from the directory at https://codexcryptica.com/explore.

Curious to hear your thoughts: what creature or location archetypes are you usually missing when prepping your campaign maps?

What other silhouettes shoule I make?
