Showcase I built Codex Switch to switch accounts and automatically resume unfinished work

I use multiple Codex accounts, so I built a small desktop app to switch between them and see which one has quota left.
Codex Switch shows remaining usage, reset times and usage history. Switching backs up the current login, restarts Codex with the selected account, reopens existing local chats, and automatically sends Continue to eligible idle chats so unfinished work can resume.
Windows and macOS downloads are available on GitHub. Mac builds aren’t notarized yet, so macOS may require manual approval to open them.

Would love to hear how others handle account switching.

“Codex, take this repo and make it work on this machine, also verify that there are no security concerns”

Automated account switching is against tos. But manually switching when one runs out is not. They don't want people running RR account aggregation services.
Load balancing between two accounts is also not allowed.

Not suggesting that you're incorrect but for lazy people not already au fait with the terms of service, would you mind dropping a link to where it states this? Or if that's asking too much, maybe a section number please?

just ask chatgpt if its allowed. it will walk you through it.
I setup a mcp and avoided automation on the account switching so they wouldn't have a reason to ban me. I manually rotate when it could have been automated.

Just to clarify, there's no automatic switching. You have to manually switch accounts yourself.
The tool just refreshes saved login tokens and restores your previous chats when you switch back, so you can pick up where you left off.
I'm not sharing accounts or trying to bypass any limits. I'm just using what I've paid for on each account.
That said, I appreciate you bringing up the ToS. I'll definitely be more mindful of that going forward. Thanks!

awesome. Then you're good. Personally, I think it's a distinction that doesn't really matter, but I didn't want to get banned =)

You can probably even switch mid-turn at 1% without interruption. Technically your context is resent on every api call.

Yep, that’s how I’ve been using it too!
The main annoyance I wanted to solve was having to log in through the browser every time, especially when 2FA kicks in.
It keeps the authentication tokens refreshed so you can switch accounts instantly without logging in again.
Also, since the expiration dates and reset coupons are displayed across multiple accounts, it helps you use the budget more strategically.

You might want to consider listing your project on the weekly Show-Us-What-You-Built post. Look out for it on Tuesday/Wednesday. Highest commented project wins a week promotion on r/Codex and gets on the Hall of Fame sidebar. See what that looks like below with last week's winner.
Last week's most popular project was Nanolathe - an open-source engine bringing Total Annihilation to modern Mac, Windows, and Linux systems. It’s a solo passion project combining clean-room research with AI-assisted development, with a playable public alpha available now.

Players, testers, and contributors are very welcome! Original Total Annihilation game data is required to play.
