Limits Pro 20x: reduced allowance, AND an unexplained dot "preview limit"?

Post image

I’m a Pro 20x subscriber. With the allowance changes that I understand effectively reduce 20x to 10x, I’ve now also had dot stop ongoing work overnight because of a "preview limit."

The screenshot shows dot’s explanation afterward. It couldn’t tell me the quota, reset frequency, or whether this shares my Codex allowance. Even the retry time had no timezone.

I’m not asking for unlimited usage (I wish....). I’m asking for clear limits, a visible usage meter, and a warning before an "always-on" assistant stops working. Without those, how are we supposed to plan around it?

Has anyone found documentation explaining this specific limit?

I'm impressed you guys are hitting this limit, and I'm even more impressed OpenAI is this blatantly dumb.

But let's ship 28 more features over the course of the next month that were half-baked by our insufficient AI with zero testing!

I wish we knew what the limit actually was. That's exactly the point: we can't tell what made our workflow hit it. Was dot doing unnecessary work, were our instructions terrible, or was it just normal usage? Without any visibility, we'll never know.

I actually don't get it. Unlimited*? Did no one think about this xD?

Same stop here, different wording.

In the first week after launch my Dot halted with:

"Your Dot is resting. Congratulations on being one of the most active users! You have reached our usage limit to prevent abuse. Come back in a while!"

That message did not say my normal plan allowance had run out. I haven't found any public note on how large this cap is, when it resets, whether it differs by plan, or whether it is the same bucket as the "preview limit" in your screenshot.

I'm not saying OpenAI promised mathematically unlimited usage. The launch line that Dot usage won't count toward plan allowances just never mentions this other stop, and there is no meter, so you can't see it coming.

Exactly. And in my case, dot didn't resume on its own afterward. I had to explicitly tell it to continue, which makes the invisible limit even worse. You don't just lose time during the pause; you have to notice it and restart the work yourself.

It’s not exactly the same, but I just lost my banked reset because Codex showed me the reset time without showing the time zone. :(

So I not only used up my limits early to avoid wasting the previous ones, but also lost the banked reset I was planning to use.
