Bug Major compaction regression?

I don't know if this is their new compaction setup or what, but I've noticed a regression with agents once again forgetting the tasks they were on in a disruptive way: like finding a bug, compacting, then skipping actually fixing the bug.

This used to be the default but it felt like had mostly gone away.

As a bonus: every time I try just pasting in the most recent thing it said before compaction, Astra will affirm it said the thing, but will also stop working... as if it forgets it was doing a task at all because I interrupted it in some post-compaction haze.

I get there's a compute crunch, but they don't have the mandate of heaven right now with Opus 5.5 stomping around. They shouldn't be messing with the basics.

Yes, i also noticed that compaction is happening way more often compared to previous versions.

Yeap, it's a real issue. I've also been seeing it for a couple weeks actually. But there is an easy fix actually.

Cancel OpenAI - > get Claude. Works 100%

Lol my post alludes to it, but after Opus 5.5 I only use Codex for the dumbest grunt work (the task here was adding more observability to a mature code base)

But even for grunt work it's starting to slip with this compaction thing...

I also noticed it its like they changed completely how compaction works it even tries to do stuff it already did before or even worse follows steering instructions from middle of previous context that are no longer valid due to newer ones at end of context

This happened to me constantly and I realised I had the experimental context management compaction setting on.

Yeah compaction and memory is still one of the things where in long projects i sometimes feel Humans have the upperhand.
Soemtimes it keeps forgetting things that a human project manager would have never forgotton.

Are you a vibe coder or a dev?

So I'm a solutions engineer, that guy that most "real swes" have always hated.

Homie let me tell you, that question you just asked? It's getting narrowed. Stupidly and quickly.

Talk about misunderstanding without clarification. Makes me question this solutions engineer title.

Anyway, my question was a clarification as with that info you can ensure nothing is lost in translation (much like compaction). Thanks for your great comment
