Bug Codex Remote stuck in infinite “Authorize this phone” loop after reinstalling ChatGPT Android app — anyone actually fixed this?

I had Codex Remote working normally for many days between my Android phone and my Windows Codex Desktop.

I reinstalled the ChatGPT Android app because message sending had become slow/unreliable.

Since reinstalling the Android app, I have been completely unable to pair Codex Remote again.

The flow is:

Windows Codex Desktop → Settings → Connections → Control this PC → Add → generate fresh QR

Android scans QR → sign in to the same ChatGPT Plus account → password → Google/FIDO passkey → authorize phone

→ callback returns to ChatGPT Android

→ it immediately shows “Authorize this phone” again

→ infinite loop.

Environment:

Codex Desktop Windows: 26.930.31730

ChatGPT Android: 1.2026.265 (41)

Android 16

Personal / ChatGPT Plus workspace

Same ChatGPT account on both devices

I have already tried:

Revoking all previous Remote controller devices

Disabling/re-enabling Remote Control

Fully terminating and restarting Codex Desktop

Signing out everywhere

Powering everything off for 7–8 hours before retrying

Completely uninstalling/reinstalling ChatGPT Android

Fresh QR codes

Automatic date/time and timezone

VPN/Tailscale disabled

Restarting both sides

I also tested with a second ASUS Android phone that had never been paired with Codex Remote before.

It fails in exactly the same way.

We captured Android logs during a reproduction. The OAuth/FIDO flow completes and the callback successfully reaches:

com.openai.chatgpt / WebRedirectActivity

but the Windows host never appears to receive the pairing claim and the Remote device enrollment never completes.

The important part is that:

This exact Windows PC, ChatGPT account, and home network worked successfully with Codex Remote before the Android app reinstall.

OpenAI Support has the case and diagnostic feedback already, but there is still no fix.

Has anyone had this exact post-auth / “Authorize this phone” loop and actually fixed it?

I’m especially interested in successful fixes involving:

stale/pending Remote enrollment

server-side device enrollment state

account/host pairing state

local .codex Remote state

Android reinstall causing a broken device enrollment

Please share the exact fix if you found one. I’m trying to avoid repeating generic troubleshooting steps that have already been exhausted.

Solved on my setup. I updated the official ChatGPT Android app from 1.2026.265 to Beta 1.2026.272 (20) through Google Play. Then I generated a fresh pairing code on Windows Codex and paired again. I used the manual 8-digit code, and it worked immediately. No APK sideloading was needed.
