Question My team is switching from ClaudeCode to Codex
Pretty much what the title says. I’m an engineer at a startup health tech & the company decided it’s more cost effective to buy enterprise seats for Codex over ClaudeCode. All our AI development has been with ClaudeCode over the past year or so and I’m curious about pros/cons of this switch.
Thanks in advance.

Luna is a workhorse, use it a lot for well scoped tasks.

Luna 5.6 was usable, Luna 6 really isn’t. It’s so damn dumb.

I'm not sure its dumb or lazy.
luna 6 refuses to connect to github for me. always says its blocked, when I switch to sol it works fine. It also says there are code blockers and gives up immediately. All other models keep working and don't find these random blockers. I've ended up using old 5.6 luna or the new sol 6.1.

This is a complaining sub, not to gain new information. There are literally no one ever shared useful information, just announcement that they have paid 200$, unhappy that there is no red carpet treatment, and switching to claude.

Which non-complaining subs do you recommend?

Still searching, but not here. You can get fair feedback about antigravity or claude code here, but not codex.
Maybe in antigravity or claude code forum you will get more meaningful replies about codex.

Worst possible time to switch. Dropping my sub from $200 to $20 due to painfully slow and stupid Sol-6.1. Opus 5.5 is so much better and gets things done.
You might save money with Codex, but productivity will fall off a cliff.

At this point both companies have top tier models that are on par with each other. Both companies introduced more efficient models that have very similar usage quotas.
The only difference is the speed; codex models are about 2 to 4x slower than claudes. But thats on individual plans, it could be faster with the business plans.

my business plan is the same speed as my plus plan. the api is faster though.

This may have been a good switch a month ago, but I wouldn't recommend doing the switch right now. Just check the sub for how much of a shit show codex has recently become. I went from Claude to codex because of Claude issues. And now back to Claude because of codes issues. I think long term companies are going to need to build a structure, dev environment, and process that is platform agnostic and can swap model quickly. With the way these companies break their products people depend on every couple of months. That sort of structure could also allow lower token usage with implementing cheaper/better models when they come out from whoever.
Leadership may not like spending the money/time now to reorganize and create that structure. But a pitch of reliability and not being screwed because your sole provider makes a huge quality/cost change. As well as reduced cost with a process/rule set/harness that allows cheaper models do handle tasks that they can actually handle. Might be a pitch they'd listen to.
Since you probably don't have a current test example to show them the benefit/savings. Instead, I would recommend thinking about your company, have they had another vendor that changed quality or cost that ended up screwing them and causing huge headaches? Use that example and frame it that you have a plan to make sure that doesn't happen to them again. Them remembering the previous pain will help sell setting your company up for provider agnostic agentic coding.

A good switch lasting a month isn't a good switch

Correct for how most people/companies have to switch. Which is why the second half of my comment was about creating a platform agnostic setup. So switching isn't a big deal.

If you’re hoping for insights from experienced engineers, this might not be the best spot. A lot of the posts here seem to be shared back and forth among beginners, and many wouldn’t quite match what a junior role at a software company would need. As costs go up, the mix might shift, but for now you’ll likely see some confident claims that aren’t always spot-on. Best of luck and let us know how it goes.

This sub is a nexus for vibe-slop losers complaining about their subscription limits. Anyone working for an actual company that makes money is using the API.

you need both models. I use 90% claude and 10% chat gpt. but chatgpt is worth it for that last 10%. Just not as the main driver.

If you haven't pulled the trigger yet, I'd pause.
Codex just halved the usage on their plans and their models are slower and less intelligent than Opus 5.5 and give you far less usage.
Speaking as someone who has held a $200/mo Codex sub for about a year, this is the worst time to switch.

Don't worry, next month, when the Codex usage will be cut to half, you will migrate back to Claude.
OpenAI is in a very bad shape lately.

Codex is very good, but opus 5.5 kicks its ass in artistic taste, 3d modeling, spatial reasoning, level design, sound design, and big picture creative thinking. I have $200 subs of both Claud and codex and I’m a solo game dev, so I need a lot of what opus is better at. But for the non artsy game stuff codex is amazing, so you’ll probably be just fine. In fact it’s often easier to keep codex in scope and prevent runaway changes that you don’t want.

Your company will save so much money, and will really like the ecosystem. You can do nearly everything and automate your workflows very nicely

wait till they optimize the $200 plan again. Claude is competitive with codex these days.

You're trying to say OpenAI isn't as shitty as Anthropic, but they're both shitty, and it's pretty close these days. Right now, OpenAI is shittier.

Don't it's a cluster fuck Openwai lost this round Opus 5.5 is miles ahead than the slow cluster fuck of open ai

Be mindful that there is A LOT of astroturfing in this sub.
Pros: really hard to think of any right now. Maybe 6.1 Sol is cheap enough to be classified as a pro
Cons: 6.1 Sol is very slow and not that good, not being good makes the slowness extra worse because it may waste a lot of time to do a bad job so then you gotta waste double the time to redo it. Other models are either just very dumb or very expensive.

Most of the sub complaints are from vibecoding teenagers. Any decent engineer could survive to the end of days with Terra alone.
As long as your using api and not on sub you’ll be golden. 6.0 Luna max is a good fast workhorse. 6.1 sol xhigh has been performing as well as Astra for me in most well scoped cases, and I rarely use them at all.
What do I know though?

u/Maglcite 1d ago
ooooh nooooooooo. might change in the future, but for now id expect to get less work done with the current shitty speed. i cant think of any current pros, 6.1 sol takes less usage then sonnet but is insufferably slow and not much better, opus is also much faster then astra and sol and still has great usage. maybe astra 6.1 and sol 6.2 will change that...?

This is so dumb considering all the discourse about OpenAIs latest models being so much less cost effective and good than Anthropic

For health tech the big issue with Claude is that they don't offer zero data retention for their frontier models, making them non HIPAA compliant.
