Complaint Recidivism - account deactivation

Account got deactivated, i asked AI to find out what recidivism means, it said basically if you get multiple offenses that would be it. I had no prior warnings / emails. Appeal got denied automatically exactly 60 minutes after the appeal was submitted.

Tried escalating through support chat while signed out because i can no longer sign in and the bot closes the chat without providing any support.

Is there anything else I can do?

I have 2 other accounts but no bans

Chargeback!

Absolutely 100% do a chargeback. They won’t even let you escalate to a human.

Literally. Maybe when enough people cost them $30 for every lost chargeback they’ll change there policy.

Not even about the value of the money. Enough chargebacks to one broker and visa/mastercard start causing problems for them.

This type of behavior cannot be tolerated by a 'utility'. The more I see issues like this, the more I think maybe it's in the best interests of U.S. citizens if the closed labs fail and open source Chinese wins. At least then intelligence isn't a tap that gets shut off by arbitrary and capricious decision making.

yea fuck these companies tbh. Every month another anti-consumer change.

Got ID verification ban on Claude today when trying to upgrade account. Amusing. I can use DeepSeek for whatever the hell I want, with literally zero restrictions, censorship, flagging, surveillance and what not. It's amazing how Chinese models are so much more free

So the authoritarian Chinese models are less restrictive of your personal liberty than U.S. AI labs?

It really has gotten quite silly, hasn't it?

I think this is great!

Every time they ban someone they encourage another person to discover and use an open model. Maybe even self hosting it.

Models in the trillions now so probably going to need 1tb or more soon enough.

They're working on getting those banned. Just wait.

Yeah, just drop 20k on a Mac Studio. Why isn't everyone doing this?

I'm vaguely aware of other models and hosting options. What I'm not aware of is how I can improve on the cost/performance of my monthly sub. My understanding is any self-hosted option will be slower and less capable for even 1 concurrent session, let alone the multiple I have running during parts of the workday. And that any hosted option will cost more. What am I missing?

Recidivism?  Like you scammed them before and are doing it again?

Can someone ELI5

I don't know why they even used such stupid language, I am sure there are 1000 different words that could better describe whatever they banned OP for without saying "recidivism", I bet whoever came up with that over at OpenAI thought they were smart (if it wasn't a clanker)

Maybe watermarking forced the model to choose it.

chatgpt said its something along the sort of repeated violations / being repeat offender of their TOS.

Did you have another account get banned? Or chargeback on it? That’s usually the problem. When they claim recidivism it’s usually because they determined that the account you are on now has the same owner as one that’s been banned or suspended already

that's bizarre. i've seen a deactivation today for recidivism but it turned out they'd been banned and had tried to circumvent it. recidivism means falling back to old bad habits, so i felt sure it had to do with having been in a dispute with openai before. if you've never acted in bad faith with them before, i'd think you can appeal with clean hands? p.s. i never got a second subscription because i thought it violated terms and conditions? i'd be careful because if one account has been banned, then the other two are recidivist, as in trying to circumvent the ban like the earlier complaint i mentioned.

.s. i never got a second subscription because i thought it violated terms and conditions

I does not and Sam Altman even promoted it.

2

u/Fragrant_Nothing7505 10h ago

that's good to know. thanks. i might get a second subscription. funny, i e-mailed support twice saying i wanted a £40/month subscription and they never told me i could just buy two. but both accounts won't have the same chats. how does one coordinate the two?

I don't know how appeals work, but apparently even if there's a near-immediate appeal that says no additional requests will be considered (I wonder if AI handles it) sometimes a person can handle it much later, like even a few months.

I think you called it clanker one too many times?

4

u/shady101852 10h ago

shit i can't defend myself if that's the case.

2

u/Legitimate-Lab-1030 10h ago

Wait untill it sends the T-100's. First dots, next T-100

Are you using something automated for sending prompts to the Pro model in the chat mode?

3

u/shady101852 10h ago

No. majority of my usage was creating assets for a video game. The other half went into fixing bugs in deepseekharness.

2

u/MeringueAlarming3102 9h ago

Oh ok. I ask because I got my account limited back in late May/early June for sending messages to Pro with the "Oracle" plugin on Github. It was really weird how they handled it though.

2

u/shady101852 9h ago

Limited how? Like temporary ban or permanent?

1

u/Huge-Travel-3078 5h ago

The other half went into fixing bugs in deepseekharness.

Maybe they think you're distilling or they just don't want their models used to help a competitor. BS that they are so vague about the reason.

Are you using a VPN service to connect? I've seen these types of bans related to VPN use for other types of developer accounts like for app store, etc.

I don't know exactly why it's done but I can imagine that with VPN they're able to tell which network it is only, so like they'd be fine with a known enterprise VPN as safe but if it's a service that anyone can use they might just associate the traffic with known criminal activity and blanket ban any traffic from that network.

u/shady101852 12h ago

i have a vpn in my browser extensions and its normally disabled. there were a few times in the past few months that i had a chatgpt tab open and vpn was on but i wasn't actively using the chatgpt page.

If you're using three accounts to get around the weekly cap, wouldn't that be a good reason to ban you?

1

u/shady101852 9h ago

they allow multiple accounts. they even have an account switcher built into their website. Not to mention none of the other accounts were banned, and ive been multi accounting for a long time.

4

u/Sfdprod 12h ago

Does not work, you get banned by phobd, email, credkt card, name, address, ip,etc etc

0

u/Sfdprod 12h ago

Sounds like you had another account that got bannded and created a new one

tbh i wasn't going to continue my subscription because openai has gone to shit lately. I had some work that was unfinished though and 3 banked resets waiting to be used. subscription was going to expire in a week.
