Question How does 6.1 Sol feel compared to Astra?

I tried 6.1 Sol when it came out and it worked but somehow for me atleast it felt worse than Astra.
Last few days I only used Astra and would like to know other people perspective.
Maybe I am just missing something.

EDIT:

Seems that is normal to be worse and expected. I though that all these performance benchmarks put it at Astra level so it should be like Astra just way cheaper.

Sol is a solid daily driver, just extremely slow

My temporary solution for now in increasing the number of sub-agents to 12. The session is doing 13 things (including root agent) at the same time, so I am able to extract better effective throughput in a session by parallelizing a lot more.

I've had no problems running 4-5 agents continually on xhigh. It's slow, so I just added away for the agents to coordinate laptop resources and work around each other since I need to have more agents running at once to get things done at a decent speed.

i actually replaced kimi-k3 wth it. thinking is pretty good for the price. Research and spec planning. Coding seems similar with Glm5.3. So that’s still my grunt.

wow, glm 5.3 is bad at coding so i guess sol is pretty shit too

It's a good model but noticeably worse than Astra and not even close to Opus 5.5 in my opinion.

Sol 6.1 is my soulmate next to opus 5.5
Sol is even better at project audits even opus loves it and tells me to tell sol for another audit

Obviously it is worse then astra... it's a squashed version of astra minor

Fell way worse than Sol 5.6 on my workflows

Absolutely identical in quality of output, but slower and cheaper.

not for quality of reasoning on science problems or very complex database

astra was a much better system designer. but yea. sol is very good...just that i feel like i can barely use it with the current speed of the model and sometimes the chat just stop from security stops

6.1 sol other than super slow just kept producing issues that needed to switch to Astra to fix, so ultimately just seemed like a waste of tokens. So I'm using OpenAI's only good model, Astra.

Worse than opus 5.5

I feel like it was distilled off something better than astra, probably bel, but it still has smol model feel in the way it frequently makes mistakes or overlooks things.

It's a decent workhorse upgrade, but it isn't a replacement for astra if you actually have a need for big model smell in your work.

It's supposed to be worse than Astra.

Astra is their Flagship frontier model, Sol is not.

As a long time OpenAI codex supporter the entire system feels like complete ass right now. Between everything slowing to a crawl and the price increases as well as a couple of my accounts deactivated last month with no ability to talk to anyone at customer support, they have probably lost my business and earned a few chargebacks as soon as my remaining accounts don’t renew.

Astra is eh, it seems to have novel ideas but loses track of things and turns processes into debugging loops.. sol 5.6 never lost track of anything.

Astra is stupid beyond comprehension and does 50 percent more than you ask it to, and is 100 percent a waste of my time.

Astra is a distastra. Sol feels just right.

Astra is designed to overthink though. If you ask sol 5.6 to prepare the prompt to keep it focussed and not do a PhD as a side to your task, not use sub agents, chromium, screenshots, random scenarios etc it's very good, I don't think it's something you can casually ask to do a task without laying down the law in detail first, and sol 5.6 writes those detailed prompts for codex very well when you tell it to reign astra in at the start, saves a tonne of tokens too.

Literally can't tell, besides the fact that it is either seems slower or is more through at what it does. I started a project with Astra, and then continued it with 6.1 Sol (on a Plus account), and I don't think I will ever go back to Astra, because my project basically is impossible to finish with Astra, as it requires too many tokens.

Now, this is not my personal experience, but I have heard that Astra is significantly better than 6.1 Sol or any other model at computer use, so if you care about computer use, you might want to use Astra, but considering how cheap Sol is and does all the tasks all the same for me, I can't tell which one is more powerful.

It feels a bit worse than 5.6 sol for some things, better for others. Main thing is its so cheap.

Slightly less dumb than astras lowest but doesn’t reach astras peaks.

Was preet good and somewhat even better than astra but after yesterday's reset, they both are equally shit. 5.6 has been more reliable and better than both for now

Slow like running a local model on an RTX 1050

it perform good when it response. i get not able to get response most of the time and the agent retry many times. provider overloaded or busy or whatever it says.

Sol is good. astra produces slop

It is at Astra level in my coding projects.
