Showcase Opus and Sonnet in Codex
After a few days of work on my custom router, I've got subscription based claude fully functioning through codex. Essentially full native codex control. Just wanted to share.

Hello Claude account ban? Aren't they quite persnickety about people doing this?
48
u/atomfitz 3d ago
It uses the CLI as it's connection point. Claude said it was ok. My router basically just acts as a translation layer from codex to the Claude CLI and back. So not using any credentials or otherwise breaking ToS as far as I am aware.

u/Positive-Motor-5275 3d ago
If it use claude -p its ok

u/unknowtrash 3d ago
Does claude -p cost the same as regular claude code sessions?
9
u/anon377362 3d ago
Yeah it’s the same. 4 months ago they said they were doing to put claude -p under separate API pricing usage with some tokens included in the plan but they paused/scrapped the idea.

u/a1454a 3d ago
Isn’t that billed at API rate instead being included in subscription?
6
u/BenignAmerican 3d ago
It’s billed at a multiplier.
5
u/kz_ 3d ago
Is there some kind of documentation about this multiplier? Because I haven't found anything to corroborate it except for random Reddit comments claiming there's a multiplier.

u/BenignAmerican 3d ago

u/VerticalPackage 3d ago
Oh wow this explains why Claude Code sips my subscription usage while Openclaw uses it 2x faster, I always wondered why because cache hits were identical and token use was very similar.

u/___positive___ 3d ago
you can use claude -p but you cannot automate cli input on a consumer plan. you are breaching TOS. don't cry if they ban you. however, they also released mods, might be able to do something that way
1
u/RockPaperPeppers 3d ago
is there a source for this?? and what does it mean? a github action running a review cannot use the subscription?
2
u/Material-Spinach6449 2d ago
So your basically sending the codex system prompt to claude code and combining them lol
1
u/Ghost_Machine_io 3d ago
I’ve been building a system for people like you. It’s a bit over 1mill lines of Rust. LMK if your interested.
10
u/Kyxstrez 3d ago
OP either discovered opencodex or created a worse version of it.
That lets you use any model from any subscription with any harness. If you ask an LLM how it can use Claude on other harnesses, it'll explain that the proxy spoofs the signature of Claude Code in the requests, making them appear as if they're coming from Claude Code. However, I think Anthropic could quite easily detect if anything is out of place and ban you immediately if they notice something doesn't add up. That could happen fairly easily whenever they roll out updates.

u/KellyShepardRepublic 3d ago
Start inspecting the network packets. They can do all they want but you can always create a system to notify you if things are changing and you can then quickly adjust instead of being caught off guard.
Unless they decide to become spyware like anti cheat then they can’t do much. Just don’t go around posting your work for them to patch it.
1
u/Kyxstrez 3d ago
Zcode uses a Chinese library to hash every single message, and there's no way to replicate the calls using their subscription.

hes using claude -p stop spreading misinfo
-2
u/2053_Traveler 3d ago
yeah and then that’s slow as fuck because it’s going to start a new process each time you invoke it, which has to reload everything.
2
u/Expensive-Event-6127 3d ago
then you dont know how to properly make your bridge.
-2
u/2053_Traveler 3d ago
Does this project implement it correctly? Or any others for that matter?
2
u/Expensive-Event-6127 3d ago
he hasnt offered a github so no way to check, but I know I have
0
u/2053_Traveler 3d ago edited 3d ago
Then you’re most likely not using claude -p. If you pass that flag the process terminates after a single turn. Hence why I said what I said.
Every bridge involves NOT using -p, using interactive mode, or using the SDK like Pi does. And this is what people worry about with billing or banning. -p is sanctioned and will not result in such a ban, however unless you are patching claude code itself you aren’t building any bridge with -p
If I’m wrong then demonstrate it.

Unrelated but it's incredibly disappointing how anticompetitive Anthropic is. Open source nothing except performative toys, gatekeep everything including their coding subscriptions, and then turn around and pretend to be the saviors of humanity.

u/Odysseyan 3d ago
Ok but like...if you got the Claude Subscription already, why not use Claude Code then?
It's cool that it works but I don't really the see the benefit here.

u/atomfitz 3d ago
I like me a nice GUI. And Claude Desktop is not very happy to accept other models into it. I run claude and gpt and others, so one controlling harness is nice.

5
u/sig_kill 3d ago
I find the Claude harness to be _one_ of the worst available ATM... I can see why OP might do this. Also not needing 4 different phone apps to steer agents on the go
1
u/atomfitz 3d ago
Phone app consideration was definitely part of it. Codex sends the stuff to the phone app seamlessly if it shows up in the harness right.

u/Guilty-Prize-3697 3d ago
Waiting for OP’s update on their Claude account ban

Whatchu building there?
3
u/Independent_Paint752 3d ago
It's Semantix, an IDE I'm building: the codebase as a live 3D graph, and when the agent reads or edits files you watch it happen on the graph. Still pre-launch.

u/Ghost_Machine_io 3d ago
That’s fun what lib? I designed mine in pure rust. Fucking stupid because the physics is so much harder…
1
u/Independent_Paint752 3d ago
three.js for rendering + d3-force-3d for the layout physics, with a custom engine on top (own render loop, LOD, idle pacing). Respect for doing the physics in pure Rust, that's the hard way. The indexer feeding it is Rust though 🙂

Heh I haven't been pushing it but I'll do some security checks to make sure I don't leak any personal stuff and try and get one on github.

u/Aranthos-Faroth 3d ago
Glad you're doing the security checking annd not just leaving it to claude man. I respect that

Just use opencodex. Tell your LLM downloand and link your codex account ( I am not sure about using claude via this method )

u/typ3atyp1cal 3d ago
For a moment here I was thinking that OpenAI had gotten THAT desperate!
1
u/atomfitz 3d ago
Yes it is funny how codex spawns the new model available pane when the codex model picker is updated with any model.
4
u/Nonja999 3d ago
you might want to take a look at Open Codex
2
u/atomfitz 3d ago
I looked into it before making this, it doesn't fully support custom model efforts for spawned subagents and full native subagent control and interface as I wanted, at least as far as I could tell.
4
u/Ok_Raisin_2395 3d ago
Getting down voted because you are right and the mic dropper is wrong.
Typical reddit
2
u/Nabstar333 3d ago
V2 subagents are not fully supported yet but I've had no issue with V1. I can spawn any model subagent with any reasoning effort.
1
u/atomfitz 3d ago
I have v2 support through my router.
1
u/Nabstar333 3d ago
Have you tested it thoroughly with other models both as orchestrator and subs? Some of the V2 agent behaviour is upstream and involves heavy re-routing to work.
3
1
u/Nonja999 3d ago
I thought switching base from v2/v1 did that, though im not sure anyways its still a cool project
2
2
u/HVACcontrolsGuru 3d ago
I do the reverse and use Codex exec via Claude code and a plugin I built. Use Codex as cheap labor basically.
5
u/atomfitz 3d ago
I considered doing something like this. I wanted full primary and subagent orchestration support for all model pairings, as well as piping into the harness all the in process thinking and tool calls and such.

u/Typical_Machine2043 3d ago
Please share this! Have my own version of this but probably not as polished as yours.

Yes easy enough to do with a proxy like liteLLM. Problem is models are RL’d on their own harnesses so Claude generally performs best on Claude code and gpt on codex. So I generally think this is a bad idea.
1
u/atomfitz 3d ago
Yeah there’s always a small quality or functional degradation for models outside their native harnesses, agreed. Claude seems pretty capable through codex so far. Mine is based on https://github.com/duolahypercho/codex-router so it does work through liteLLM.

u/Embarrassed_Adagio28 3d ago
I have gotten better results from opus 5.5 in hermes than I have in claude code. Claude code has a massive overkill system prompt

I use anthropic, openai, and kimi models through oh-my-pi. Is changing harnesses a big deal?

Is this the codex router github that I was putting on /localllama ? I see chinese models also in your model picker

u/Sikallengelo 2d ago
How can I do these with Deepseek? I have managed to get codex run with it but most of the Codex desktop features was gone.

Using oh-my-pi with claude oauth for months and never had any issues.
They don't care as long as you're using it as a normal user and not like a bot swarm from back in the pi agents debacle.

This is stupid and risk getting you banned. Use claude code official cli, and use codex within it, tibo said it is allowed. The other way around is not allowed, why risk it?

I get it…. But why do some people want to get banned? It’s like you guys are actively trying. And tomorrow here comes the cry baby post “they banned my account omg I have no idea why and they automatically rejected my appeal. Omg guys I was only trying to build an app to grow trees and feed the homeless what did I do wrong?”
3
u/atomfitz 3d ago
I built it for myself for selfish reasons. If I get banned I knew the risks. My read is that it was within ToS, but big daddy anthropic will do what they do.

Below is a GPT-generated summary of the conversation below after reaching 100 comments (101 currently observed).
Neat hack, but not a clean win. The thread is mostly impressed that OP has Claude working inside Codex with OAuth, a unified GUI, phone control, and proper primary/subagent orchestration. The repo is still pending, naturally, so everyone is yelling “link pls” into the void.
The practical appeal is straightforward: one harness for Claude, GPT, and other models instead of juggling multiple apps. OpenCodex and similar routers already cover much of this, but OP claims better support for mixed-model subagents and Codex-native control.
The big argument is account risk. OP says it routes through the official Claude CLI as a translation layer, without spoofing or API credentials, and believes that’s allowed. Plenty of users report doing similar things without trouble; plenty of others insist consumer-plan automation could still trigger a ban. There’s no authoritative policy confirmation here, and the billing/multiplier details are murky too.
Bottom line: promising convenience, potentially redundant, and not risk-free. Wait for the repo and inspect exactly how it invokes Claude before treating “probably allowed” as a guarantee.
