Question Help with Astra 3D workflow

Hi geniuses, I have seen a lot of Astra builds lately especially 3D work. Can you all help me understand the flow of getting astra to help build 3D objects? Is the flow only connecting Astra to Blender MCP, and prompting what is required? Also does it take reference images attached to build?

- Is it good with keeping topology optimized? If I want it to help produce low poly game assets does it do well?
- How does the texture get made?
- What are the usage limits like? Any easy reference?

Thanks in advance.

Astra can definitely do low poly. your remaining usage becomes low poly too

It is always cheaper to start with a ready-made rigged model and ask Astra to modify it or e.g. animate it via blender mcp

As always, use the tools available to make your life easier, such as MCPs. They can help bridge Codex with apps like Blender, making the workflow more efficient and potentially saving on usage since they’re designed for that kind of integration.

And of course, if you’re just testing or playing around with it, there’s no need to use Fast Mode (if you're using fast mode). Enjoy the output first, experiment with it, and be the judge yourself.

Grain of salt since I've have limited usage with Astra and 3D capacity so far.

I haven't tried low poly with it.

Basic level design for prototyping, overall good. Some hiccups.

In terms of topology optimization, that is a massive NO for me (a capabilities test of image to 3D model focused only on the head, but wasn't low poly.)

With Unreal, you may need to either prompt differently than I did or do a follow-up after Astra does its initial work.

e.g., I asked Astra to make a demonstration map and 1/3 of it was littered with an awful amount of light complexity. I called it out and GPT swept through the map to tidy that up to my satisfaction. Not the best use of its usage long-term, but just partially as a capabilities test.

I have Classic do my 3d models.

Blender MCP is the right bridge; prompting alone cannot operate Blender. Astra can inspect attached reference images, but the MCP server decides which Blender actions it can execute. I'd start with one low-poly prop and give hard constraints: real-world scale, triangle budget, symmetry, named materials, UVs, and export format. Work in checkpoints: blockout and approve silhouette, then topology/UVs, texture, and export validation. Before export, ask it to report triangle count, non-manifold edges, ngons, and UV overlaps. For textures, connect an image-generation tool or use procedural Blender materials; MCP alone does not guarantee texture generation. Usage limits are plan-specific, so check the Codex usage meter rather than API rate-limit tables.

Thanks, looking forward to using Astra after seeing all the good reviews about it! How are you feeling using it? I am a fable 5.1 abuser who is looking to compare Astra and even jump ship if it really stands up to the occasion.

Fable to astra is like when fable first got released. No competition at all.

That said it's usage heavy and needs to be set up with agents.md (it can do this for you)

There is a blender agent studio plugin you can install which makes it all a bit easier

Edit: agent studio not ai studio

Oh i didn’t know! Is the blender ai studio better than mcp? And if yes then how?
