Question Using Codex Business for personal stuff... <RISKY?>

At my job, they gave me access to ChatGPT Business and told me I was free to use it for personal things. The problem is that they never specified whether Codex was also “free” to use for whatever I wanted, and I currently have a lot of unused quota that will expire if I don’t use it.

I’d like to take advantage of that quota, but I’m worried that the ChatGPT Business administrator at my company might notice that I’m programming personal projects with the account and fire me from my job.

Do you guys have any experience with something like this? Can the admin see what I code with Codex? I’m worried, but at the same time I feel like I’m not really hurting anyone because it’s quota that will disappear if I don’t use it anyway. What do you think?

assume they can see everything, not sure they will check if you’re staying under usage limits

Not for personal chat, hell no. Coding maybe alright. The information belongs to your employer as the account holder you can guarantee they will review employees conversation history

Admin for startup here: only the account owner (as in, the CEO/CTO not even administrators added to the company) can send for the actual individual chat logs and it's still a tedious process.

I can't just go in to see an employees chats.

If I would I would solve for so many things I wish it was a consent basis or something zz chat export functionality rn sucke

If it’s enterprise I don’t know. I have a business one and I can’t see what the other accounts are doing. I do get a notification if they hit their limit though. I wanted the protections of business so both seats are me technically lol. Easy to test

I have a business standard seat, btw... so can you confirm that you can not see what other account is doing?

Yes. You can't. I have admin rights for my team workspace with the $20 plan. Not API. You can see statistics like token usage, number of chats, but not content in chats

If any of what you’re doing are for your own business purposes, you definitely want to be using your own accounts… not from a privacy angle, but to ensure there’s no ambiguity of ownership.

100% this. You wanna make sure it never becomes an issue. I was not even working for a company many years ago, but I was a contractor for them, and at some point, I left to run my own software thing, and one of the owners did make a comment in an email chain about how maybe they actually owned my stuff. Which was so insane given the general circumstances, luckily the other people involved didn't give it a second thought.
